I was taking about 'pretty' with my daughter last night. She is an attractive woman....very beautiful i'd say, but I'm bias. We were off to see a band last night. I spent an hour trying to make myself look presentable...she spent two minutes brushing her hair and she was done!! It never ever crosses her mind to attempt to look 'pretty' as long as she is happy with how she looks. I'm the same in my old age. I dont try to please others with my look....i simply do me!
At 21, i was all glamned up at an event and sonehow i got collered talking to some guy i wasnt remotely interested in. I didn't fancy him, didn't find him interesting and he just wouldnt 'get the hint'. He actually said to me.....'you'd actually look quite pretty if you bothered to smile'. I replied, ' i'd smile if I was remotely intetested in anything you had to say' he went on to give me advice on how I should behave if I wanted any man to be interested in me and said there was no point me trying to look pretty if i wasnt prepared to be gracious and accept compliments.....clearly in his mind, women trying to look pretty is for the benefit of the guys they meet.
What a t*sser he was!
I dont think I ever wanted to look 'pretty' ever again.

@bijouxbroussard The entitlement of some men shows how they were raised and how they see women.

@bijouxbroussard that part☝

@RubySoo exactly that way!
I feel my perception of beauty is different . I find it in the unique and natural. I feel I am just as pretty with no makeup on but the reactions of society are so different when I do wear it.

But everyione owes beauty to the world
Because beauty is the creation of an image of love
And love makes the world go round
And if we dont help each the make the world go round for others
the wheels will grind to a halt
Love is not prettiness,
love is giving,
love is far more than beauty,
Beauty is not love
A wild predatror can be beautiful
A winters day can be beautiful
But a warm house and a good deed are love
Because beauty is the creation of an image of love
And love makes the world go round
And if we dont help each the make the world go round for others

I would argue that we use the term beautiful for status symbols like a country estate or a sports car when really most of us oculd never afford to run them and they are expensive trinkets bought with the sole purpose of making themselves and others believe they are somehow more worthy and better. That sounds like looking pretty to me. I think beauty is in giving and shairng. Country estates and sports cars are just pretty dressings. I give you Pete Waterman as an example. Spedns his money on heritage railways works with disadvantges kids, and interesitng interviews because he can, but its all giving and life enrichng for all. If I won the Omaze house draw, I'd like to be genrous with my time and net worth in siilar ways so I get his vibe.

@bijouxbroussard Is it becasue its poetic. Poetry and lyric can say so many things and convey sentiment so much better than prose cant they because they break the boundary of haivng to be exact and specific
