"This is my simple religion. There is no need for temples; no need for complicated philosophy. Our own brain, our own heart is our temple; the philosophy is kindness.” Dalai Lama
Most of us need a Text, and not only a Text, but a Commentary on that text. Then again, if the text just said "pass go and collect £200 pound" no commentary would be needed. But when it says things like "blessed are the merciful for they will be shown mercy" most NEED a commentary to protect themselves from such simplicity.
He may be right, but he didn't define what is a religion and what is the need for it. Nature by itself is a religion. Nature by itself is philosophy, didn't make any god or temple. So what was the need for a religion?
@in10RjFox I think religion is just a label, an umbrella that encompasses a belief system that only installs fear in people. Fear of hell and damnation, afraid of making mistakes, being taught contradictory church doctrines, most of which aren't even in the bible they claim to follow. I prefer nature, if anyone has a belief in God, that will be the only place to find him.
I know I will get lambasted but I do believe that we need more than setting our own standards as we need others to help us as we help others to achieve our goals after death if you have them. But for ones who go with that philosophy, I have to say they can succeed if they truly believe that.
