The Zelenskyy Scorecard
What a fun end to the week. [sarc]
It's important to understand that the purpose of Zelenskyy's visit to Washington DC on Friday was to sign the minerals deal. Let's not forget that Zelenskyy had already agreed to this deal, yet backed away from signing it two times prior.
US Treasury secretary, Scott Bessent, went to Kyiv on Feb. 12th, and Zelenskyy blew him off, saying he'd sign the deal at a meeting in Munich on Feb. 14th. JD Vance and Marco Rubio went to Munich where Zelenskyy refused to sign again. So, it shouldn't come as a great surprise that Zelenskyy arrived in DC with no intention of signing this time either. Nor should we be surprised that the media had their "diplomacy disaster" narrative well coordinated for distribution after Trump sent the Ukrainian midget packing.
I've watched the full 50 minute meeting in the Oval Office. It seemed to be going well until Zelenskyy started the finger wagging at Trump & Vance. A stupid move considering Ukraine's dependency on US tax dollars and weapons. Did the Ukrainian midget think he was dealing with Biden?
So...in terms of wins and losses, how did Friday's events turn out for each of the stakeholders?
Ukraine: Zelenskyy's stunt just cost Ukraine US funding, and did what may turn out to be irreparable damage to Ukraine's most powerful ally. There appears to be no willingness to talk peace, which equates to more death and devastation. Loss.
US: didn't get the minerals deal signed, but Trump cut off the money spigot for a war that cannot be won. Win.
Russia: played no part in the deal and ended up in a much stronger position as a result. How much longer can Ukraine hold off the Russian military without US backing? Win.
Europe: Zelenskyy is now demanding $250 billion from the other NATO nations. That means ponying up more money for war, which means less money for European social welfare programs, green energy, etc. And as Ukraine runs out of grandmothers to send to the front line, Ukraine will demand NATO boots on the ground, and Keir Starmer is willing to supply those boots, a very dangerous escalation of the conflict. Loss
Those cheering on the TDS narrative have missed the big picture.
