Why shouldn't Ukraine be allowed in Nato?

The truth is that Ukraine is just not important enough, to the US in particular end even to Europe, that war with Russia would be risked. The US is increasingly on an America first agenda and Europe lacks the strength to go head to head with Russia alone. In fact I have little confidence that article 5 would be applied in practice for many of NATO's members. I'd be pretty surprised if anything less than an attack on American assets or American soil would invoke an American military response. I think they'd let Putin take more than just Ukraine.

It's a sad indictment of the world that we live in and it makes somewhat of a mockery of the sacrifices of the second world war.

I can tell you a reason. And it's not because I like Russia in the slightest.

Ukraine doesn't actually meet the requirements to qualify for a NATO nation, due to human rights violations. The organization known as Freedom House gave them a score of 60 to 62 on a freedom scale of 100. And that was before the invasion.

That doesn't mean the US doesn't have an obligation to protect them, however.

The US president and other populist far-right leaders oppose Ukraine's membership. I think the other countries want to make sure they are better prepared.

Because we agreed not to stack russias border with American bases and bombs..
Just like Russia agreed not to load Cuba with nukes..

Russia expansion is the excuse we hear as a threat.
