What a wasted opportunity. He could buy a lot of goodwill across the political divide by putting a tenth of his estimated wealth into a blind philanthropic trust. But I sense he is not the sort of man who would relinquish control so easily. Or give away cash without a clear transactional return to himself.

@MarmeeMarch Fact remains most of the donations his Foundation have made have been to other Foundations he has created which primarily serve the needs of his businesses. More manipulation of the tax code for self-benefit than philanthropy to meet societal needs..

@SW-User even Warren Buffett has said the tariffs will cause some downturns in the short term but in the long term it will be significantly beneficial to Americans. And heck if Trump is able to reduce the deficit and the expenditures of our federal government to the point where he can do away with taxes on everybody making under $150,000 that would be fantastic. For anybody middle class and lower.

Bill Gates created Microsoft using savage business strategies to form a monopoly of endless greed that holds the world at ransom to this day. In doing so he also amassed obscene personal wealth. He tries to create good PR and to feel good about himself by letting a little of his useless fortune go to charity.
