It's got nothing to do with humanitarianism, but to do with realpolitik and natural resources.

@Darksideinthenight2 the kidnapping was neatly done indeed, but we'll have to see what happens next. It would be the first time a dictatorship just recovers back into a functioning democracy after the leader is gone. But who knows? Maybe if the USA doesn't get involved in the transition, it might work. Maybe it will turn into a lesson that nobody needs the USA for diplomacy. It might even serve as inspiration for the USA's own recovery when the Heritage Foundation is gone.
