Definition: Levying war against the U.S. or adhering to its enemies, giving them aid and comfort.
Punishment: Death, or imprisonment for at least five years and a fine of at least $10,000.
Disqualification: The convicted person is barred from holding any U.S. office.
Therefore, was Mr. Trump’s insurrection on January 6th equivalent to “levying war against”?
Thus treason!

By the metrics of most countries absolutely. For better or worse the US has probably the most niche definition of treason to the point that it almost seems like getting away with it is the point.
