Does Trump want American farms to fail?

For the past week or so Trump has been saying that he might put heavy tariffs on fertilizers.
Right now the US imports over 80% of its needed fertilizers. And the reason for that is because the US doesn't have a lot of the minerals and chemicals that are needed to make potash – a vital nutrient in fertilizers. So soon 80% of American farmers might be paying way more for their fertilizers. So I figure Trump either didn’t think this thing through – or he wants American farms to fail because of some diabolical plan of his. Cheers!

I need to confirm but the tariffs proposed by President Trump are targeted at Canada.

Canada supplies +20% of the world potash demand. Russia is 12-15%(?) Belarus 10%(?) And about 100 other countries make up the remaining 55-58%...

Is this a play by DJT to enrich Putin with Potash business the USA currently procures from Canada? idk I can't make sense of it...

@tenente Canada supplies 80% of the potash. I can only see this move as an act of irrational aggression.

@JimboSaturn

Canada supplies 80% of the potash.

Canad supplies 80% of the world potash demand? Or our potash demand? I think you're right, Canada supplies us with 80% of our potash needs... I think DJT intends to redirect those purchases to Putin(?)

@tenente I meant to the US. This policy is not a policy, it's a whim.

@JimboSaturn I can't see the MAGA base holding the line in the face of annihilation caused by this proposed potash tariff. Our farmers are doomed
