Trump says he has commuted sentence of former Rep. George Santos

CNN reports:

“President Donald Trump said on social media Friday that he is commuting the sentence of disgraced former Rep. George Santos, who had been serving a seven-year sentence for the fraud charges that got him ousted from Congress.

“George Santos was somewhat of a ‘rogue,’ but there are many rogues throughout our Country that aren’t forced to serve seven years in prison,” the president wrote on Truth Social.

“George has been in solitary confinement for long stretches of time and, by all accounts, has been horribly mistreated. Therefore, I just signed a Commutation, releasing George Santos from prison, IMMEDIATELY. Good luck George, have a great life,” the president added.

Santos had been serving out his sentence at the Federal Correctional Institution in Fairton, in southern New Jersey, per the federal Bureau of Prisons.”

My Comments:

Santos pleaded guilty to identity theft and wire fraud in August 2024. He was sentenced to 87 months in prison in April 2025, which he began serving in July 2025.

If this commutation of his sentence results in his being released from prison, then he would only have served less than 3.5% of the 87 months he was sentenced to—and none of it in solitary confinement while being “horribly treated” as tRUMP claims.

This is yet another of the abuses of the Presidential Pardon by pseudo POTUS Demented Donnie!

@newjaninev2 Exactly! Frankly, when you look at the nature of his crimes, that fact that he had charges against him when he fled South America, his utterly fraudulent campaign and his refusal to resign from the House when confronted with his history—87 months is far less than the average Joe would have received for similar crimes.

This is just further mockery of Justice by tRUMP. And he had to “spice it up” for his base with his outright lies of “long stretches in solitary confinement” and “horrible treatment.”

Just another example of the tRUMP crime family.

God save our country!

TACO had a bad day with attention going bad, so he needed a diversion. Watch Santos be named to a cabinet position!
@samueltyler2 GAWD NO!!!

He’s only fit to be the “server” on the prison volleyball team!

@KunsanVeteran since when does that matter to TACO
@samueltyler2 Demented Donnie’s commutation of Santos’ sentence speaks loudly to his own quilt and the shame he has heaped upon our country.
The criminal helps yet another criminal.
