Apparently the Chagos Islands are not US territory.
Ah yes it's British territory by the look of it and the USA has a base on on of the islands called Diego Garcia.
The UK forcibly removed all the 'native population' between the late 1960's and early 1970's then the USA set up it's military base.
The UK and Mauritus are engaged in an ongoing sovereignty dispute.
Apparently on UK and US citizens are allowed to go to the islands.
