Understanding Trump's new Gold Card

I listened to a panel discussion of the Gold Card, and it seemed to me that no one discussing it really understood how it is supposed to work. (With the possible exception of Dana Perino).

I listened carefully to Trump when he explained it during his News conference today prior to his first Cabinet meeting.

The Gold card will be available for sale to corporations inside the United States. The cost to a corporation will be 5 million dollars per card.

The card is to be used as a headhunting incentive for young foreign GENIUS college grads from places like MIT and Northeastern. The card grants the recipient, after vetting, the ability to stay in the United States for an unlimited amount of time.

The government would be involved in vetting those students, and further down the road, gold card holders would have a path to citizenship.

This would be a way to MINE the best and brightest brains from around the world, and bring them into our country in order to IMPROVE our technologies.

Trump HOPES to sell a LOT of gold cards, the sale of which would be put toward paying off our debt.

A LOT of media articles are now stating, (Incorrectly I think), that this is a way for ANY wealthy person ANYWHERE in the world to "BUY" citizenship. I believe that to be incorrect. I do NOT believe that was Trump's intent.

Great idea. US colleges and universities, especially noticeable at the grad school level have an abundance of foreign students who return to their country on graduation. Also some have adjunct professors who come to the US to teach a few years and return to their home country. Just based on what I know because of family and friends, the foreign students make up about 20% of graduate students in the US.

While on one level this may seem a a great way for the US to do its part in making the US a great global partner and neighbor, it also comes with a cost in that most graduate programs have pretty restricted enrollment numbers, so if a particular PhD or MS/MA program has 20 annual openings and accepts 20% or 4 students from China, it means that 4 US citizen applicants will be turned down.

There is also a great idea for attracting teachers and professors from other countries. We just went through the downside with a friend from India. Universities are unable to stretch themselves to offer tenure paths to non-citizens, and one year contracts means they can have the rug yanked from under them at the drop of a hat..

If we bring down the debt by half we will be in good shape. Scott Adams talked about this. There are not enough millionaires to wipe out the debt but if we can axe 1/3 of the debt and bring in talent and money from other places win win for us.

Wow well we need our people taken care of first. I think maybe he means let students keep educating themselves, but school should be more accessible.

Even if it is the case, how is that bad compared to letting millions pour across the border that don't contribute to society, they just take

He certainly has better intent than the criminal Biden. Biden was bringing in anyone inclusive of criminals so use as Democrat voters. Trumps plan is to enhance the countries workforce. Wonder how the Libbie loons will try to twist this one.

The Democrats would rather pay for hotel stays to illegals increasing the debt and weighing to country down with dead weight.
