Do you think its true that once a dictator always a dictator?

At a town hall yesterday Sean Hannity asked Trump about the media saying he would be a dictator if he returned to the Oval Office. Trump initially shied away from responding, but when asked a second time he said he would only be a dictator on the first day of his second term.

I think that is the biggest lie Trump ever told because he is likely planning on being a dictator for ever if he gets back in the WH. Cheers!

People don't know what a dictator is anymore. Even Nazi Germany needed to implement the Enabling Act to become a dictatorship. Trump would need to shut down congress to do so. Him joking about only being a dictator on day one is just him being his usual self.

@TheGreatLeveler All Hitler needed was a few enablers, I suggest you read Volker Ullrich's book Hitler, ascent 1889-1939.

Overview
A New York Times 2016 Notable Book A major new biography--an extraordinary, penetrating study of the man who has become the personification of evil. "Ullrich reveals Hitler to have been an eminently practical politician--and frighteningly so. Timely... One of the best works on Hitler and the origins of the Third Reich to appear in recent years." -- Kirkus Reviews "An outstanding study... All the huge, and terrible moments of the early Nazi era are dissected...but the real strength of this book is in disentangling the personal story of man and monster." -- The Guardian (U.K.) For all the literature about Adolf Hitler there have been just four seminal biographies; this is the fifth, a landmark work that sheds important new light on Hitler himself. Drawing on previously unseen papers and a wealth of recent scholarly research, Volker Ullrich reveals the man behind the public persona, from Hitler's childhood to his failures as a young man in Vienna to his experiences during the First World War to his rise as a far-right party leader. Ullrich deftly captures Hitler's intelligence, instinctive grasp of politics, and gift for oratory as well as his megalomania, deep insecurity, and repulsive worldview. Many previous biographies have focused on the larger social conditions that explain the rise of the Third Reich. Ullrich gives us a comprehensive portrait of a postwar Germany humiliated by defeat, wracked by political crisis, and starved by an economic depression, but his real gift is to show vividly how Hitler used his ruthlessness and political talent to shape the Nazi party and lead it to power. For decades the world has tried to grasp how Hitler was possible. By focusing on the man at the center of it all, on how he experienced his world, formed his political beliefs, and wielded power, this riveting biography brings us closer than ever to the answer. Translated from the German by Jefferson Chase.

The orange traitor lies 99.9999999% of the time but he is telling the truth this time. He has his worthless heart set on becoming a dictator.

@TheGreatLeveler If we haven’t learned by now, that Trump telegraphs his punches, we never will. I don’t think he was joking at all.
JackMasters · 51-55, M
@RockerDad He wasn't joking. His narcissism makes him telegraph his punches like you said. He fully intends to do what he said he will, and he feels completely justified in doing so. At least until he changes his mind because some other whim has seized him. Frankly, I think in his heart he wants to be king. Literally. Eventually, God.

I'm a veteran and a republican, although I mourn what my party has become. I cannot stand this man. Yes, I'll vote for the ultra liberal Joe Biden before I ever even consider letting Trump back into the White house. He showed us his true colors. If we let him back in, we will deserve the calamity that ensues.
RockerDad · M
@JackMasters I think he thinks being president IS being king. If he gets half a chance, he will try to make some kind of Trump political dynasty for his kids. Biden clearly has some flaws, but I have often said that Biden on his worst day, is better than Trump on his best day.

@RockerDad Biden CLEARLY HAS SOME FLAWS Ha Ha! Incompetency and malignancy.
If there were no more to criticize than the border crisis---and there is far more to criticize, he needs to go.
@ElleryQueen Yeah, I fear another term of Biden. However, I fear another term of Trump far more.

I plan to vote against Biden in the primary in 2024, just as I did in 2020. But if the general election is Biden vs Trump, I will hold my nose and vote for Biden again in 2024, just as I did in 2020.

The country has been operating under the current constitution for the past 234 years. So, why in all of that time the sorry-ass Congress Critters have not addressed the illegal alien issue? Maybe it's because they want to flood the country with them to be their slaves.

If you expect any President to resolve it on his own, then you want the president to become a dictator. Do you want him to set up landmine fields and machine gun nests to slaughter everyone who illegally crosses the border? A couple of the Repub presidential candidates think that is a good idea.
ElleryQueen · 61-69, M
@Diotrephes You have in the past distinguished yourself by really stupid, biased and hateful comments. Since your "point" is all of those things, one cannot answer it in a convenient space. The fact is that immigration policy was reasonably satisfactory throughout much of our history. The current crisis is largely Biden's fault, permitted by enough Democratic support in Congress to let it happen. As Holman Jenkins described in the WSJ Biden is our "President Clouseau" bumbling and breaking everything in sight.
JackMasters · 51-55, M
@ElleryQueen Still, I'll take President Clouseau over Trump any day. But maybe the Democratic primary will give us a surprise candidate for 2024 against Trump. The truly important thing is that Trump never sees the inside of the Oval Office again. I truly believe that while we could recover from a second Biden term, we cannot recover from a second Trump term. We won't recognize the country after a second Trump term.

@JackMasters enjoy your enforced electric auto and hope you don't get stranded in a blizzard in it. Just one of the GOD-awful Biden policies.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@ElleryQueen do you homework about that!
ElleryQueen · 61-69, M
@samueltyler2 i have. One of the great boondoggles of our time. Why do you think thousands of car dealers have written to the administration to slow down the "transition"?
Biden/Brandon/Clouseau is in thrall to the lefty progs. Are you one?
JackMasters · 51-55, M
@ElleryQueen That's funny. I actually fully intend to buy an electric vehicle for my next new car. I wish I had one now, but I'm waiting for the prices to come down a little more. I want a Tesla. I've been studying EVs and know a lot about them and the associated issues and arguments. I don't think that EVs needed a push from the government. So you're right, that's all liberal politics. Instead, EVs are going to become the standard because they're just better in every way. But yeah, we have some more growing pains before everything's hunky-dory and copacetic.

And speaking of God-awful Biden politics, I'm no Biden fan. He is corrupt and is owned by the unions.
But while he bumbles and breaks things, Trump wants to blow it all up with crazed maniacal glee. Let's hope the Democrats find a different candidate, but if it's between Biden and Trump, I got to take corrupt and bumbling Biden. Hands down.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@ElleryQueen where do you get your information from? why would a dealer ask not to sell electric vehicles? i just read an interesting look at what would happen in an all EV vehicle stuck in a blizzard versus a ICE car. You can bet where I am going with this. If both have equal estimates of fullness the EV does far better!

@samueltyler2 sure thing.
this took all of 10 seconds to find. You must subscribe only to WOKE sources. i bet you are a fan of Claudine Gay too.

@ElleryQueen did you even read what you just sent? it reports alleged decrease in consumer interest, not that there is anything wrong with the vehicles, it took many years to convince drivers that seat belts were a good idea, that building in crash protection saved lives, airbags, etc. If something isn't done about pollution, climate change we are just going to leave a scorched earth for our kids. Can you even define WOKE? It takes seconds for you to generalize and blame everything on the "liberals," but this is not a matter of liberal v conservative, dem or rep, it is an existential problem, and the technology to avoid catastrophe. Sure the new EVs aren't perfect, but neither are the ICEs.
JackMasters · 51-55, M
@Diotrephes ElleryQueen is right that our immigration policy was pretty effective forca couple of centuries, relatively speaking. We actually did a fantastic job of an integrating immigrants. But it isn't designed to handle the volume that's coming into the country from our Southern border. And nobody has wanted to fix it for decades. So I don't agree with ElleryQueen that it's Biden's fault. This issue has been building for decades. And it's not up to the president to fix it. But Congress doesn't want to fix it either. There's all sorts of back room secret reasons why they don't want to fix it. They just don't and they're not going to. But even if they don't, we'll handle it. We've handled it up till now and will continue to handle it. We're not going to be overrun by militant immigrants from the south. It's all just more of the same.
ElleryQueen · 61-69, M
@samueltyler2 The PUBLIC does not want them. Remove the wasteful subsidies and NO ONE would buy one. Drop your climate alarmism and stop trying to ally yourself with the authoritarian left.
Even The Netherlands has taken a turn to the right.
JackMasters · 51-55, M
@samueltyler2 The reason why dealerships are having trouble selling legacy auto EVs is because those cars suck. Most companies don't have the engineers or the software people to make really good EVs yet. It's going to take a while. So the public isn't that interested in buying them. They will either catch up or go out of business. The market will take care of itself. Regardless of Liberal or Conservative posturing.
JackMasters · 51-55, M
@ElleryQueen Dude, the public DOES want EVs. They just don't want substandard EVs. And their expectations are rising because they're aware of what's possible now. It's going to happen.

And oh yeah, climate change is real. Lashing us with conservative tropes doesn't change the facts.

But if you don't want to buy an EV, then don't. You'll still be able to buy ICE vehicles for at least another decade and a half, and there should be used ones on the road for a few decades longer even. Just don't get mad at your neighbor when he does buy an EV though. Because dude, they are so freaking cool. You have no idea.
Diotrephes · 70-79, M
@JackMasters EVs are a scam. They might be OK is you stay in one area but they are worthless for long trips. And a new one today will be obsolete within 5 years.
