An Economic view of a Trump win in 2024

The Establishment journal "The Economist" has just announced Donald Trump as the most dangerous person on the planet.. And this is not a political briefing. I encourage everyone to read it. (MAGA people, get a grown up to help you with the long words and remember that there are other countries in the world than America)

I haven't read it yet, but there are many parallels with Germany in the 30s...

@Convivial So can I. But thats a political argument. This is how a second Trump term will effect everyones pocket. The worst news is for those Americans who arent in the 1% of course. But Americans arent famous for voting rationally.😷

@whowasthatmaskedman true... He's developed the art of the con to be levels
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@Convivial OK. I give you that point. However, his conning abilities seem largely related to the American people..Kinda makes you doubt their skill set in spotting snake oil...😷

@whowasthatmaskedman to be fair, when you feel you're at the bottom of the pile someone who tells you is the fault of "them" and he's got the cure, it looks pretty attractive
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@Convivial Yes. Thats Universal. Identify the "other" and blame them. It works ever better if they are visibly different. But I am trying to focus this on what it is going to cost everyone if he gets back. The article does go into some detail with the knock on effects...Thats not to say America isnt in for a rough time anyway. You really need it to be any worse??😷
Convivial · 26-30, F
@whowasthatmaskedman hopefully we won't find out... But one thing that does have me worried....i grew up wondering just how such a civilized place as Germany could give us the death camps in ww2....i fear I'm beginning to understand the how
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@Convivial Just remember that fear is a great motivator, while by definition, 50% of any population is below average.. You rarely go wrong betting on the panicked stupidity of large crowds..😷
Convivial · 26-30, F
@whowasthatmaskedman sadly true....

@MarmeeMarch Thats a complex issue, possibly for any question. As I have had pointed out to me, America is not in fact a Democracy. If it were in my view it would be the resonsibility all all qualified people to vote and what qualifies one would be universal. Since it isnt, and even the opportunity to vote is not equal, America has a long way to go..😷

@MarmeeMarch No. I understand the process perfectly well. And in the days of Horse and Buggy, Indian raids, only property owning males voting it may have made sense. Just lets not bother pretending its a Democracy..😷
masterofyou · 70-79, M
@whowasthatmaskedman Actually its not a democracy the United States is a Republic....
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@masterofyou Yes. I keep pointing this out. Its pointed out to me mostly by people who think only "the right people" need to have a vote..😷

@whowasthatmaskedman

The MAGAs don't care about their pockets being empty, they appear to be more riled up about being able to say "the N-word," fag, homo and "Rag Head," Just to name a few, everywhere they go. They don't want to be told to act like civil human beings, they've been "victims" of "Liberalism" for too long.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@calicuz All pretty much true. And most of them feel short changed or passed over by the Promise of America. Its really quite the perfect storm, from the generation that won WW2 and the space race to being told your job went to the Chinese, your home is worth less than you paid for it and you cant get medical care without going bankrupt. That would p*$$ me off too. I am not saying they dont have reason to be upset. Just that they are mad at the wrong people and certainly supporting the wrong people..😷
masterofyou · 70-79, M
@whowasthatmaskedman ohhhhhhh and who are the right people and who do you think should have the right to vote??
calicuz · 51-55, M
@whowasthatmaskedman

And after all that, they still believe an American politician can save them and this country. Not until the Establishment is brought down, will American Politics ever change.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@calicuz If only it were that simple..Simple fact is that America as a whole has been living beyond its means since the 70s and racking up debt, more recently faster and with less goodwill. The lifestyles of many Americans are going to change, and not in a good way.. Think Great Depression...😷
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@masterofyou I think every resident and citizen not serving time has the right AND OBLIGATION to vote.. And in a progressive tax system not only would there not be corporate bail outs, but the ricj would pay a lot more tax. After all. this in the country that made them rich.. And subsidies for big business and agriculture would stop cold. I'm not about a 5000 word manifesto. But you get the idea..The nation lives within its means from the top down..Call it trickle down austerity..😷
