Hmm, apparently the Committee has shown that a significant number of House Republicans wanted presidential pardons from Trump...

Well well...this appears to show, at least, that significant numbers of House Republicans (of whom Scott Perry is the only one named so far) knew they had been involved in illegal conduct of some sort.

It also lends weight to the theory that Trump and the Republicans really were planning a coup, and that they knew that the election fraud claims were baseless. After all, why would you need pardons if you were only raising legitimate questions about the election?

Dear oh dear, Trumpy boy!😎
Liz Cheney named Scott Perry. Other names haven't been named yet, but Newsweek has this:
In January 2021, CNN reported that Reps. Andy Biggs and Mo Brooks—who were both subpoenaed by the committee with Perry—and Paul Gosar sought clemency from Trump in the wake of January 6, which the former president ultimately refused.

In their May letter to Biggs requesting information, the House Committee said that the Arizona congressman's name was mentioned by a former White House personnel as being part of efforts by some Republicans to seek a presidential pardon for "activities taken in connection with President Trump's efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election" in the wake of January 6.

In October 2021, Rolling Stone reported that Gosar had promised "blanket pardons" for those who organized the election protests on January 6, which preceded the attack on the Capitol.
@ElwoodBlues Thanks for yet another sad data point about the US of A...

You can only be pardoned for crimes you admit committing.
@windinhishair Yeah I don't think you can grant a pardon when there is no conviction, for one, and pre-pardoning esp. one's confederates strikes at the heart of the rule of law, even if pre-pardoning can be done.

And when ppl make a plea deal, you have to "allocute", i.e., perform a recitation of your crimes, before a judge, in open court (former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick did this for Federal & State charges). The form of allocution in Federal &--at least in Michigan, but (presumably) most States tie down the same issues--State courts has a form which requires a series of questions of the accused, by the judge which make sure that the accused

• is not under the influence of any substance,
• is not under any threat of force, harm, or other compulsion,
• is not doing this due to some additional offer from a third party,
• is doing this entirely of his/her own free will.

The allocution is supposed to conform to the testimonial oath of telling the FULL truth, and typically seems to include timelines, and specific mentions of specific crimes, of course.

@SomeMichGuy Having his co-conspirators admit their guilt may be why Trump did not grant pardons. He gladly threw them under the bus so he can continue to spout the Big Lie.

Yeah and I hope they noticed how un loyal Trump is. They went to bat for him and he didn't bother to take 10 minutes to get them a pardon he used them then abused them. Cheers!
@Nanoose Yes. Odd that anyone would follow him.

This is a wonderful truth brought out in the committee activities and is undeniably incriminating for those asking for pardons.

@BackyardShaman Yup! As Jamie Raskin said:
It’s hard to find a more explicit statement of consciousness of guilt than looking for a pardon for actions you’ve just taken, assisting in a plan to overthrow the results of a presidential election
They are aware and are not in denial of what the truth is but they want us to be.
@softspokenman Well said!
If they thought that the coup that they backed was going to be successful, why would they ask trump for a pardon? They would be his loyal patriotic heroes? 😳

It's going to come to charges. and yes it was illegal.
After all, why would you need pardons if you were only raising legitimate questions about the election?

Well said.

The number of R's trying to C[T]A im the wake of a FAILED coup is pretty damning all on its own.

Ha ha. This liberal stuff is beyond belief. Trump would have never been elected if you hadn’t run a hated idiot against him.
SW-User
@jenmil Liberal? I'm sorry but if that "hated idiot" had got in instead of Trump (who would have been annihilated by Bernie, if he had been allowed to run), I doubt she would have organised a coup to cling to power when she realised she'd been soundly beaten...🤣
