I believe so; particularly if Goldwater would still have been the Republican candidate. Johnson carried all the liabilities that JFK would have, and JFK was better liked than LBJ. And what a difference that would have made historically since JFK already was committed to exiting Vietnam in his second term, and had his staff working on that.
