You know almost every power generator in the world is a steam engine?

Coal-fire-steam-turbine
Gas-fire-steam-turbine
Nuclear fision-steam-turbine

You know how easy it is to make a steam engine? Everybody could have thier own generator on a garage pad. Then we could all work on creating perpetual energy for our selves. But the government would have to learn to share when someone figures it out rather than take it for themselves.

Alot of the problems we have in the world we only think we cant solve because weve been raised to be reliant on the system. Would we have starving or homless if anyone was aloud to grow food anywhere? Instead the majority is adicted to the news and social media thinking the only life is a 9-5 were we scrounge to balance food and rent.

Humans are far more intelligent and resilient than we are lead to believe. If you broke off from society, what are you capable of? What and where would you go off and learn?

The steam engine (otherwise known as the external combustion engine) tends to carry less pollutants through more complete cumbustion. The main disadvantages in operation being the warm up/cool down times, compared to the instant "on/off" of internal combustion and electric. Plus the concentation of so many fires in close proximity and the need to ventilate for safety. Urban society would need to be rethought.😷

@GuyWithOpinions I see the idealist in you isnt dead. Good for you. In history the pattern is a pattern of disasterous necessity and greed that drives progress..But I can hope you are right..😷
GuyWithOpinions · 31-35, M
@whowasthatmaskedman yes. Your right. Iv been dwelling on such realizations myself as i look through human history. I think we have potential for change if guided in the right direction but trust is low these days. Maybe with purpose.

@GuyWithOpinions But we need people with your attitude. I sincerely hope you hang onto it.. But think in practical terms for your own future. You will last longer that way..😷

I don't think you know what the term perpetual energy means.

Also steam engines and steam rrubines aren't exactly synonymous. Sure a steam piston engine is simple to make and operate. Steam turbine engines a little bit different. Then there's the efficiency of numerous small scale generators, the mess created, the pollution right next to you, the thermal loss of several small generators, the cost of fuel and maintenance.

I'm all for personal energy production but you just gave perhaps the worst possible method or plan to do so. Not to mention you would be just as reliant on the system just in shifted ways.

Oh, I fully understood everything you've spoken about because I've always been a strong advocator of living off the grid and being energy and food self-sufficient.

What would homeowners use for fuel?

And would it be as efficient as a power plant? My guess is consolidation and scale is more efficient, otherwise I presume power companies would already have small satellite microplants in every neighborhood.

And would you want emissions near your house?
GuyWithOpinions · 31-35, M
@JoyfulSilence the usual house requires about 30 Kw/hr. Not a whole lot. If you had a few solar panels, a windmill and a small steam engine, you could charge all your storage batteries and have a ton extra to sell or share with neighbours.
JoyfulSilence · 46-50, M
@GuyWithOpinions

At least the solar panels and windmills do not require fuel.

Maybe they could be used to heat up that water, too. At least for hot water for people in sinks and showers.
GuyWithOpinions · 31-35, M
@JoyfulSilence you can use anything that produces heat for fuel.
helenS · 36-40, F
You did not mention photovoltaics – intentionally?
helenS · 36-40, F
@GuyWithOpinions It's simply a conversion of sunlight into electric energy. It's presumably the future of human energy supply. Unless we all say "Drill baby drill".
Nitedoc · 51-55, M
@helenS We are headed towards that on a large scale. It's a great idea.

The problem with these examples is that they all require that something be burned to make steam happen, which then turns the generator

What about water-powered generators where nothing is burnt to create power?
GuyWithOpinions · 31-35, M
@swirlie well maybe not 4 cities idfk 🤷‍♂ you know what i mean.
swirlie · F
@GuyWithOpinions
Rather than use fossil fuel to produce heat to produce steam to turn a generator to create electricity, why not just hook a diesel engine up to a generator and call it a day?
GuyWithOpinions · 31-35, M
@swirlie its the same thing. A diesel generator is just a small internal combistion engine that pushes pistons using contained explosions. Its the predecessor to the steam engine.

I cant build a internal combustion engine in my garage. The steam engine produces less but its easier to make and i can use any fuel source i want to make heat. Even an old couch.
