I talk to myself and Scat and whistle annoyingly when neighbors are within earshot. But I pretend I don't know they're there.
I also have loud conversations with my son who can't really hold up a conversation due to his mental state and capabilities and I hold up his side of the conversation as well, making him my voice of reason, and giving him all the credit for any good ideas I might have
You mentioned fairy lights. I've been doing something similar with Christmas lights, making little light clusters that can run on batteries. Sometimes I will mix incandescent with LEDs. Incandescent lights eat up the batteries so I tend to do those as 110 AC or I run them with a phone charger which produces about 5 volts of direct current. I'm currently doing an experiment to see how long 12 LED lights will run on two AA batteries. I'm on day 4 I believe and still going but not so bright like day one. The batteries are the crappy Costco batteries , so there's also that to consider
This is just to see how long they last on 3 volts DC. They will be cascading down on the next one.. like a jellyfish
Another cool thing about LED's is the lack of heat produced by their light. I make it a point to go to Home Depot the day after Christmas every year and stock up on cheap Christmas lights
