I don't know how my comment ended up here but I'm trying to delete it
Jayciedubb · 56-60, M
@Reject I see it now. Thank you. When I saw it landed in the wrong post, I got frantic and I couldn't see the garbage can, and for some reason I couldn't back out without leaving a comment so I deleted what I wrote and wrote what's there now. And now I feel like if I delete it and somebody reads his thread they're going to be confused
Reject · 26-30, M
@Jayciedubb No worries! We all make mistakes sometimes. Being confused about an online thread is pretty normal too. 😂 I’m just happy to have you here in any capacity. Lol.
Jayciedubb · 56-60, M
@Reject .. I came to update that comment that I just found out is still here. I thought I deleted it and posted it on the correct thread.

My take on happiness is that it's kind of like magic, I mean like a magic trick. When you figure out how it's done, it loses its magic. So when you find happiness you should just enjoy it while it lasts cuz everything we know is fleeting in its own scale.

And never expect anybody else to supply your happiness for you. It's not fair to them. It's not a healthy way to be happy

Sometimes when I struggle to be happy, I think that there must be some people in prison who are happy and if they can do it, I can do it. Sometimes, the thought of never having been to prison is enough to make me happy

And quit watching the news. You know they only talk about the bad news.😉
Casheyane · 31-35, F
@Jayciedubb Magic...I like that analogy. :)
Jayciedubb · 56-60, M
@Reject I wasn't talking about any material fortune, or liquid fortune (financial). The type of fortune that i reflect on to lift my spirits is more of a circumstantial fortune, like never being imprisoned, or being born in the location i was born in.

Sometimes its the fact that I was born at all that makes me feel fortunate, when I think about all the competition there was at the time of conception. We all had about the same amount of competition when each of us were conceived. It was a life or death egg hunt with about 200 million participants and only one egg.

As long as you understand magic doesn't have to be fleeting, then you should be able to find happiness and keep finding it. But as soon as you understand that it is a trick, regardless of whether or not you know exactly how it's done, just knowing it's a trick loses a lot of the magic. That point it's best to become a magician and be happy making people happy

@Casheyane thanks. Analogies are one of my specialties. ..sometimes. ...like when I have to break some bad news or to explain an embarrassing situation

Beautiful text my dear, it was nice to read it first thing in my morning 🌻
I've been through a lot of ups and downs even if most of them within me and this text is smoothening the corners. 🌹
Reject · 26-30, M
@being Thank you so much for your comment! It made me feel even better! I’m glad we could help each other. The practice of an open mind is very challenging to keep because as we get older the most natural and comforting thing we do is define everything and narrow our minds. Let me know if I can smoothen anymore of those pesky corners for you! ♥

I talk to myself and Scat and whistle annoyingly when neighbors are within earshot. But I pretend I don't know they're there.

I also have loud conversations with my son who can't really hold up a conversation due to his mental state and capabilities and I hold up his side of the conversation as well, making him my voice of reason.

You mentioned fairy lights. I've been doing something similar with Christmas lights, making little light clusters that can run on batteries. Sometimes that makes a match incandescent with LEDs. Incandescent lights eat up the batteries so I tend to do those as 110 AC or I run them with a phone charger which produces about 5 volts of direct current. I'm currently doing an experiment to see how long 12 LED lights will run on two AA batteries. I'm on day three I believe and still going but not so bright like day one. The batteries are the shit Costco batteries , so there's also that to consider

This is just to see how long they last on 3 volts DC. They will be cascading down on the next one.. like a jellyfish

Another cool thing about LED's is the lack of heat produced by their light. I make it a point to go to Home Depot the day after Christmas every year and stock up on cheap Christmas lights

Edit: today is day 4. Not 3. ..of uninterrupted illumination from 12 LED's and 2 cheap AA's. Had they been the old incandescent type, they would have sucked those batteries dead within a couple hours, but not 12 of them. ..only 4 or 5 .. and produced a considerable amount of heat in the process

Some situations make it easier for people to be happy than others.. and also attitudes .. it's entirely a choice but one's choices have an effect .. in the end
Reject · 26-30, M
@YoMomma This can be very true! However, it’s also worth noting that simply because a situation may be pleasing for a short time as it makes our lives easier. Perhaps from fortune of some kind, that doesn’t necessarily constitute real happiness. If it did, then people would see it as a temporary thing which is the reality most believe in. I personally don’t like to think this way because it only means my happiness isn’t up to me and it’s something that can be taken away. I like to think that it is in the harder parts of life that love and therefore happiness deepens.

@Reject i think you and @XcookiexbakerX use a different part of your brains than i do 😬😏

You are completely right. We can't control life. If you are waiting on the government, your boss, coworkers, friends or a spouse to always make you happy you are in trouble. We simply can't control any of those people. The only thing we can control is ourselves and our thinking. Once we stop waiting for everyone else to make us happy and realize that just by changing our own thinking we can actually be happy. The last few months my wife and I have gone through some pretty hard times. Have I always been happy? No. Some days I have been down, but it was never for long. Change your thinking and have a better day.
Reject · 26-30, M
@Musicman It’s good to see like minds my friend! 🙂‍↕ I agree. I always like to say, “Any thinking you have that is independent of the world is true to yourself”.

@Reject We are the only thing we have absolute control over.

That may be easier said when a person doesn’t have chaos coming at them from several different directions all at once.
Reject · 26-30, M
@cherokeepatti I know this argument. “If you only knew my pain! You couldn’t say such things! It’s easy to be grateful when life gives you thing all these fortunes you benefit from! If you had to endure chaos, you wouldn’t preach of peace.” …Right?

Surely you must understand that there isn’t a single soul who lives and is spared from suffering. Everyone has their own story with much tragedy in it. Even worse, there will never be anyone else who will truly understand your personal agonies more than you yourself. You can compare things and believe some have it better or worse, but that doesn’t change how the most painful thing you will ever know will always be whatever you have the most perspective on and this is the curse of every human being. Despite all this, many can still find happiness of their own.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Reject You know something? I have had several very long periods of my life when 3 different things hit me all at once. I don’t know how I stayed sane going through all that. Some people break down when it’s only one thing. So don’t preach to me. I did the best I could with what I had at the time.
Reject · 26-30, M
@cherokeepatti You and everyone else. Alright. I won’t preach. Best of luck to you.
KiwiBird · 36-40, F
Life is all about CHOICE.
Nothing more
Nothing less
Reject · 26-30, M
@KiwiBird Every single day is filled with choice. I think the only way to know if you’re making the right ones is based on how true those choices are to yourself.
