Some people think I'm trying to sound cool and edgy with my name. There's actually a very long story behind it.

Back in 2008, when PlayStation Home first came out, I got my first PS3, and was anxious to create a username that reflected some aspect of my life, but also sounded like something gamers would think was cool. I practice magick, and I like to wear black. So I thought it would be funny, kind of a play on words, to call myself DarkMagickan.

At the time, I was completely unfamiliar with the card game Yu-Gi-Oh!, so I had no idea that there was a card called Dark Magician. Also, apparently, people who play Yu-Gi-Oh! can't spell, or just assumed I couldn't. Cue the influx of people all yelling "BLUE EYES WHITE DRAGON" when they saw me come in the room. And that's the true story of how I came to hate a game I've never played.

Cut to a little bit later, and I joined a website called Ask Yahoo!, later to be renamed Yahoo! Answers. I still liked the general idea behind my name, but I didn't care for the inevitable Yu-Gi-Oh! association by people with no imagination. And so I thought about it. Magick is energy work, and fire is pure energy. Darkness can also be referred to as shadow.

So yeah, my username actually just means I'm a guy who dresses in black and practices magick. The avatar is because my first profile picture back in the day was just me in silhouette, wearing a cowboy hat, against a background of fire. I later added little tiny flames for eyes, and kept changing it until I arrived at the creature you see in my profile pic today.
