Feeling like the black sheep [I Am A Grateful Memeber Of Alanon]

I love my home group and that they're all so positive, but yet they're all so positive. I'm feeling like I can't relate at times to an almost Pollyanna atmosphere. I hope I get to where everyone else is.

It’s important to share the truth of how you feel in order to overcome or face that obstacle whatever it is... here 💗to having courage to be you

@Mindful Excellent points. Truly "mindful". I'll be myself.
@abooklover I understand what you are saying to Mindful. I can't relate to people in the support-group self-help mode. Mutual back patting always alienates me further and beggs the need for true communication...

@Elevatorpitches Exactly.

sounds like pretty much all self help and hotline experience these days

But its a long lonely journey to the source of complicated personal pain... and positive psychology is often a cover for neglect of the helping mission...

There's always a reason we are in pain and covering up with habits and addictions and there's not much encouragement from many quarters to just dig down and find the truth and then try to work with it and around it to get stronger.

but we gotta do it. Positively.

I want to be part of something like that too but it has to be helpful 4 all of us. Can't imagine how to find anything though...Meeetup??

This is a problem with a lot of support groups -- pressure on everyone to be upbeat so as not to "bring others" down.

I attend a group for a very different problem, and I am grateful that we can each be wherever we are that week, emotion-wise. I know some people have a group that they consider their home, but attend another where they can get something they can't get from their home group. Have you found such a place, where you can share negative feelings freely?

If not, or even if so, SW might be a place you can do that, once you have found people you trust.

@DrWatson I've just recently returned from a long hiatus from SW I've been here a long time. I'm searching for other Alanon groups. I don't think my home group is a good fit. Thanks so much for commenting.

@abooklover In that case....welcome back, and all the best in your search :)

@DrWatson Thank you, I appreciate it.

I’m sorry they aren’t a good fit. It has taken me a lifetime to get the medical help that I need, and I am still growing!

@Mindful It's ok. I'll find the right group eventually. I have a lead on a sponsor too.

you're the one not clutching papyrus and clad in a linen skirt. It's hard to fit in, when the price is so high.
