Would YOU use these excuses to stay home from work?

I have to embalm and wrap my dead mother.

My mother is ill.

My wife/daughter is having her period so I have to stay home to help around the house.

I was bitten by a scorpion.

I have to stay home to make offerings to the gods to improve my health.

I have to fetch stones for the scribe.

I have to brew some beer.

(The above are all excuses to stay home from work discovered on a limestone ostracon listing workers in ancient Egypt and their reasons for staying home from work on certain dates.)

I am SO glad to be able to provide you with some new, (old), excuses...馃ぃ馃ぃ馃ぃ

There's nothing new under the sun.

@PhoenixPhail My professors in Art College used to say that...to a budding artist, always wanting to be fresh and new, it was very depressing.

I don't mean YOU are depressing. Just that they used to say that all the time.
PhoenixPhailM
@4meAndyou I went to art college, too.
My profs never said that, but certainly could have.
I know they knew it was true.
4meAndyouF
@PhoenixPhail Where did you attend art college?
PhoenixPhailM
@4meAndyou Peabody College in Nashville, TN.
Before it was bought by Vanderbilt.
4meAndyouF
@PhoenixPhail I went to Massachusetts College of Art, and later took a class in jewelry making at the Museum of Fine Arts School in Boston.
PhoenixPhailM
@4meAndyou I taught 3 studio art courses at Vanderbilt. One of them was jewelry making. The other two were ceramics and photography.
4meAndyouF
@PhoenixPhail Sounds fantastic!!! I would have taken your course, for sure!

At the Museum School, the soldering guns were hooked up to the city gas supply, and they ran super hot. I was working on a huge sterling silver collar which extended to the breast bone, and wanted to put a bezeled jewel I had polished myself on the breast bone area, and ended up melting the silver.

NOTHING like soldering at home.
PhoenixPhailM
@4meAndyou Melting the silver is so easy to do. I've made my share of mistakes with jewelry making, and all of the other media, as well. It's a process of seeing what doesn't work as much as what does work. One doesn't exist without the other.
4meAndyouF
@PhoenixPhail Yes...and at $1000 per class, I was not going to buy another opportunity to use gas powered soldering guns...馃ぃ
PhoenixPhailM
@4meAndyou WOW. That's quite expensive.
I don't blame you for not buying another class.
4meAndyouF
@PhoenixPhail Yes, but at $1000 per class, they will let just anybody in...馃榿
