The entire system is hosed at the moment. And we can't fix it quickly. A quick fix means a lot of pain because the entire system is built around exploiting the breaks. Tax the wealthy, they are going to seek retribution. Provide Medicare for all? You've just killed hundreds of thousands of jobs designed to extract wealth from the system. For the record, I support an active wealth tax on billionaires. But that has to be approached with a systemic look at how they might react. For example, they might try to leave the country for somewhere more tax friendly. So we need a tax structure in place to accommodate. A tax on American assets held by a foreign entity, perhaps. Congratulations, you put your business HQ in Ireland but own a billion dollar building in Silicon Valley? You get an extra foreign ownership property tax.

@SatanBurger I'm not ready to say it's hopeless. Look at what Germany went through and bounced back from. We're losing our superpower status, not much helping that. Honestly, losing it may be an important part of our recovery. I'm not expecting a recovery in the next ten years. Twenty might be optimistic. But I think there is room for growth, especially in the newer generations. Honestly, especially in women in the newer generations. Hopefully more men come around, but it's going to be the young women that carry the hope of a brighter tomorrow.

@ViciDraco I still care about issues but America is a lost cause mainly because we can't ever take back the lives we ruined like we ruined the immigrant communities. I also hear how we don't deserve equal rights or Healthcare. Generally even Americans don't think we're deserving of that and actively fight against any proposed efforts for progress. Even if it got better, I'll never trust my country again after Trump.
We can't take back the lives we ruined. Right now there's someone in another country getting tortured because they had out dated paperwork. They might be being starved or beaten. Right now at this moment.
And the children... don't even get me started when 31 border patrol and ice agents been caught for trafficking, who knows what they're doing to them

@SatanBurger We can't take back the lives we've ruined. All we can do is try to build towards a future that ruins fewer lives. Basically every nation on earth would be considered a lost cause if beholden to their pasts. I'm not even saying you'll be able to trust your country again. The work before us is no longer something we undertake for ourselves. It's work we have to undertake for people who aren't even born yet. Because that's how long it's going to take to fight for changes and to prove to people that change is possible. And it may still get worse before it gets better. In fact, it probably will. It's exhausting and it's not fair. And we can't turn a blind eye to atrocity. It's not a lost cause, it's a long road.
