How much is your tag renewal this year?

Tag cost vs state taxes, specifically.

2 pickup trucks and a Mustang. Mustang is about 200 bucks. Older pickup is 300 and the newer one is closer to 400.

@icedsky How old is the Mustang?
icedsky · 51-55, M
@Musicman Its an 03

$92 here in Florida.
That reminds me, mine is due next month. I don't remember the cost but I know it's less than back home. Personal property taxes on it were like 600 though, a ridiculous bill that doesn't exist back home.
Around $300 for 2 vehicles

Across Canada, tag renewal use to average about $100 per year per vehicle. But starting last year in only the Province of Ontario that I'm aware of, the tag renewal fee is now zero dollars... that's right! In the most prosperous Province in all of Canada, vehicle tag renewals now are free of charge.

You must still register your vehicle annually online, but your cost is zero dollars to do that. IF however, you forget to renew your registration by it's expiry date and the cops stop you and make this discovery themselves, the fine is $300.

I was very skeptical about this new licensing protocol that started in 2023 for Ontario because that is a huge loss of annual revenue for the Province of Ontario.

I just filed my 2023 annual income tax however and discovered that my Provincial tax owing was $200 more than it was the previous year, though nothing else has changed. I now realize that the Ontario revenue loss from zero-cost vehicle registration renewals was recouped by increasing the Provincial taxation on income, even for those who don't even own a car! Nice work if you can score a gig like that!

About $132 for the vehicle I am trying work a deal on getting. Plus $25 for the new plates.

Registration is a stupid scam. It serves no purpose that the License plates themselves already provide. Should be just a small one time license plate fee until you take it off the road. Total money grab without any useful function
