What could and should have been

"My friend! We live in a wonderful time - a time of great construction, extraordinary discoveries, a time of the irrepressible movement of our society towards communism. Our wonderful time is full of the romance of creating something new, full of big dreams. Our tomorrow is the communism we built. Let's dream together today..."

Vasily Zakharencho in "Journey to Tomorrow" how he imagined the future of the USSR.

The Soviet Union might not exist anymore and did not manage to meet its own expectations and aspirations but I still believe in a society based on science, exploration and community. One that is free from the shackles of Capitalism.

Let's see how this works out.....my guess is the same way it always has.
Gloomy · F
@Notanymore That's a very pessimistic mindset. I'd rather give the Soviet Union another shot than accept the world as it is today.
Notanymore · 41-45, M
@Gloomy I'd rather not have a system that feeds the government first and let's big brother make the calls. I'd rather not be out in a position where the working class is forced to stay in their lane regardless of will, to appease big brother. I'd certainly not like to go the route of the Soviet union and don't believe I will in my lifetime.
@Notanymore Americans feed the ownership first. It's killing the planet. Lies always about the reality.

@Roundandroundwego Americans still have the ability of individual thought. Even if some have given it up for the comfort of letting others think for them. Americans still have the ability of individual growth, even if some would prefer to be put in place and stay there. America still has the ability to be self sustaining, even if some would prefer to lick the boots of the leadership. I'll pass on the boot licking.
@Notanymore it's true. Any time the slave people want to experience reality, they're able to start thinking critically.
Notanymore · 41-45, M
@Roundandroundwego slave people?
Gloomy · F
@Notanymore In the US workers barely have rights. Bunch of wage slaves with a terrible health system.
@Notanymore when the workers don't own the means of production they're not free. You don't have that alternative -. America has no alternatives. They're not a country but a slave force in captivity.
Notanymore · 41-45, M
@Gloomy the health system does suck. But that has a lot to do with the socializing of healthcare via a welfare state that allows the poor better care through government assistance than the working class. That and crooked politicians in big pharmaceutical pockets. As well as insurance that functions like communism. Workers have plenty of rights and even in this shit economy, the money is there for those with the fortitude to go get it. It's generally those that have an aversion to work that complain.
@Notanymore no privatized system serves the public well. But the USA doesn't need to be healthy! You're unstoppable and dying younger and younger! Nobody can stop that. Booooom! War and poverty as really are tools in running things.
ViciDraco · 41-45, M
@Notanymore that allows the poor better care? Not sure what poor people you are hanging around or what region of the country you are in but it's extremely challenging to find providers around here that accept the government subsidized insurance. And then making appointments is hard as well because they are overbooked.
Whereas everyone takes my employer sponsored insurance but everything is expensive as hell, even with a 10% copay.
Gloomy · F
@Notanymore Are you for real? Poor people are part of the working class. There are people who can't sustain their life with working only one job.

The class system is the problem with rich elites having access to better care and meds being way too expensive.
@Gloomy yup. And knowing it doesn't change a thing. A tiny mighty oligarchy runs everything and finally there's no way out! The Murkans got their way! Sssammmmmirrrrkkkk! End times.
Notanymore · 41-45, M
@Gloomy from my experience, I've seen more people that do no work with free healthcare. That includes people that are fully capable of working good paying jobs, yet choose not to.
@Notanymore whatever you like, we're dying younger and working more so it's all good. America would never choose life over work! Killing, yes.
Notanymore · 41-45, M
@Roundandroundwego dying younger compared to?
Gloomy · F
@Notanymore One of the reasons why life expectancy in the United States is lower than in other industrialized nations is because of an under-performing healthcare system, according to a report by the National Research Council. Drops in life expectancy are especially pronounced in US adults aged 50 years and older.
@Gloomy it's your life. Nobody thinks social medical care will help you.
Notanymore · 41-45, M
@Gloomy so, we should be working together to fix healthcare, instead of instill communism?
Gloomy · F
@Notanymore We should fix healthcare. The European way seems like a good start. The whole US system needs to be changed.
@Notanymore everyone. China, all EU countries -. Like deny, destroy and delay, man! Make me prove it and let people die for capitalism.
@Gloomy "should"-. In what values system? Humanism or Americanism? Humanism or capitalism?
ViciDraco · 41-45, M
@Notanymore I'm not sure why these choices always boil down to This or That. Sometimes the best answer is Why not both? People who don't want communism don't have to support that. But there is no reason we shouldn't be able to work together on things we do agree on.
Notanymore · 41-45, M
@ViciDraco I agree
Notanymore · 41-45, M
@Roundandroundwego how about reducing government control of the health system and disallowing politicians from investing in or receiving money from pharmaceutical companies and insurance companies. Overhauling the welfare system to demand input and accountability. Stop going to politicians to demand change, scraps and handouts and demand instead our money gets spent where it should be spent. How about people working together for once?
