Abolishing pensions is no different than a company refusing to pay an agreed upon wage or other work benefit.
If they can't pay the pension, then liquidate the company.
But I would create a new pegging order:
1) former employees
2) current employees
3) government
4) suppliers
5) share holders
Pensions should be paid FIRST.

@checkoutanytime who has unlimited access to a pension? The estimates are all over the place, but, less than 50% of American workers have pensions which they do not have to pay into, defined benefit, about 50% or so do have defined contributions plans which require the worker to pay and their employer offers some match. At the present time, though, the majority of older people have no pension other than social security.
