Pfft !

I'm 56.
I've paid 6.2% of my income ever since I started working over the table at age 12.
My employers have matched that for a combined total of 12.4% of every single dime I have ever earned.

Social Security is not an ENTITLEMENT !

And, had the FED not rearranged the rules and the way the fund was managed back under Reagan, that money would have grown exponentially over the years making the government money and We The People Money.

How about the government just dissolve the whole thing and pay every living citizen back what they stole from us over the years /

PFFFT !!!

Because make no mistake..., as the war to end payouts intensifies, there is no talk at all of ending the pay ins to the system. And if they do manage to end Social Security, they'll seek to find a way to continue to collect the 6.2% from the working class. because I can tell you straight up, they have no intention of allowing you to keep it.

Well, that gentleman is probably young and out of shape. He'll need a walker.

I knew a guy who waited till he was 70 to die. He was a traffic controller for the airport I think. Anyway he had a stroke at 72 and ended up in the old folks home.. He told us every day he should have retired at 65.

Every government since the creation of 'social security' benefits...or pensions or life insurance with profits policies began has misappropriated; lied and flat out stolen the benefits that were supposed to secure life beyond retirement for those investors.

Or even those trying to cover themselves against unemployment.

Endless periods of boom and bust economic cycles, profit warnings, share sell-offs and buy-backs make attempting to invest for your future retirement, pointless.
Whether you're in the U.S or UK or Europe.

Add to that at least one generation earning less than what could even laughably be called 'a living wage' (earning slightly more than your basic living costs for rent/mortgage/utilities/food) and you get where we are now.

All these high ranking military sackings....nothing to do with perhaps government not being able to pay the cost of the pensions due ?

What with people living longer too...how dare they

@Picklebobble2 I think a mistake made by the British government who brought in so many welcome reforms in the 1940s, and which are too easily taken for granted, was calling the tax "National Insurance".

I think I can understand why that name but it has led to so many people moaning, "I've paid into it all my life...".

They seem not to realise they have not. It is not an "insurance" or savings plan. They seem unable to grasp that their (and my) State Pensions are paid by those still working as employees or self-employed so paying National Insurance. Just as when we were working our NI paid the contemporary pensions.

That's not due to by anyone lying to them, but to themselves not bothering to understand the simple principle.

Boomers are duty-bound to hoard as much money and resources as possible so the youth can't have it.

I'm not worried about a faster walker. I do have concerns about inflation eroding my savings. that wait can add a little juice now that someone might appreciate farther down the road.

The ahe of retirment should be decreasing, not increasing with the amount of wealth this country generates

Wait to seventy? Maybe if someone sits at a desk. Physical work takes a toll on one's body. Does anyone really know how long they'll live? Sure, go ahead and work. Then die before collecting one cent.

@Crazywaterspring The only organizations that really employ old people are Congress and the courts. Private companies force their older employees to leave, one way or another.
