I Hate Obamacare

Here I go again. The problems never seem to end with this program.

People are penalized for not having insurance yet the average person could never, ever figure out the program.

i have my masters in insurance, maybe the other kind, but i am constantly battling this monster.

My brother was given a credit and now they take it away. They gave him a BIGGER credit this year and now we are receiving threatening letters demanding more information but they don't tell us what is needed. It is entrapment.

I sent in so many payroll docs, it cost me almost 4.00 to send yet they shredded it. Since they are questioning his income, i have to resend not only this years but last.

the letters state to call the Marketplace yet those yahoos can't answer any questions at all AFTER being on the phone with them for 45 minutes at a shot.

I honestly have had enough.
SmartKat
I'm not crazy about it myself.
.
I live in a state that refused to expand Medicaid.
.
A couple of years ago, I was unemployed. I couldn't afford to buy insurance on my unemployment benefit. So, I had no insurance. At least I wasn't fined for NOT having it, because I could prove I was unemployed.
.
Fast forward a few months. I found contract work (temporary.) I could either pay a little for substandard "insurance" through the contacting company, or I could go to the "Marketplace" and select expensive insurance that still wouldn't cover anything I actually need.
.
Luckily, after another few months, I found a permanent job - for those jobs, companies usually offer group insurance that's reasonably adequate and not too expensive.
.
So - IMHO, things are about the same as they were before. If you don't have a permanent full-time job, you'd better hope you don't get sick.
.
And employers are always coming up with new excuses to avoid providing group health insurance as an employee benefit. A lot of places hire mostly contractors (like I was for a few months) because they're considered "temporary" or "not a full-time permanent employee" - and thus, they can get away with not offering the insurance benefit.
.
Not that the employers really have it easy. The insurance companies keep raising the prices on policies, and they save themselves a lot of money by refusing to cover different things. (In this regard, the ACA helped somewhat. There are certain preventive care things that insurers are now required to cover.)
.
Anyway, because insurance companies keep raising prices, the HR department of the company you work at has to devote hours to looking around for the best deal on group policies Every. Single. Year.
.
So, I guess because my annual dental and health checkups now MUST be covered, I'm a little better off than I was before.
.
As long as I can hang onto a permanent full-time job.

We even had clients divide their company so they did not meet the required employee amount of 50
We are grateful for the coverage. it saved my brother's life but the hoops we had to jump through was unnecessary. Substandard doctors, evasive paperwork, incompetent marketplace reps all amount to frustration I don't see in my plan.
Last night i went to the post office to mail 2 years of docs..Priority mail or first class was going to get there Saturday...which one did i choose? first class.
so if this round does not go though, they shred it again and i have to resend it..awful.
Hikingguy
you bring up some great points and I am glad you have a full time job in this wonderful economy!
akindheart · 61-69, F
I wish i didn't have this job but there is no way my brother would understand the jargon much less the process!
bayofbiscay
It's about being looked after! You pay enough tax so it's only right you are looked after! A rich country that doesn't look after its people is a poor country! Get with the programme! We've had healthcare in Europe for nearly 100 years - it's long past time you caught up!!
akindheart · 61-69, F
i always take out health care travel insurance...just in case
MrSquishy
Again...you should call NHS directs and ask for information on E111. You probably didn't need the travel insurance you took. And rather than slagging the NHS you should read up a little.
Calvexz
I have first hand knowledge of the nhs and not just through my aunt being a nhs nurse for the majority of her career. The e111 or ehic card as it's now know isn't the same and general only used for immediate attention while in EU. It also only gives the same level of medical health that the country would give its only citizens and not always for free. There are many people who with the ehic had to pay and then try to get reimbursed.
The nhs is full of overpaid paper pushers and not essential medical workers. Just one of the reasons why I chose to work in medical research instead of the nhs.
Go educate yourself and work for the nhs then see how great you think it is on the inside
MrSquishy
Is the problem Obama care or is it all the restrictions to it imposed by the Republicans? From Europe the idea that there is no easy access to health care for low income citizens seems such an aberration.
MrSquishy
All I know is that there are quite a few countries in the world who have public healthcare and very few people would even consider questioning the benefits it.
It is paid by everyone proportionally to their earnings. It is accessible to those who are homeless or jobless.
You guys spend millions building mega churches and at the same time can't see the benefits for society of universal public healthcare.
MrSquishy
I think there is to much interference of pharmaceutical and insurance lobbies in the US politics. It is democracy of the wallet.
hosedsailorboy
Actually that's incorrect. Both the House and Senate had the majority and Reps didn't hold up anything. That's why it was reamed through before the midterm election when Dems knew they were going to lose one or both of the majority spots. Pelosi was steaming on "We have to pass the bill to see what's in it!"... WHAT KIND OF LUNACY IS THAT?
BizSuitStacy
I have to agree. The insurance plans in the exchange are confusing. Making it worse is the fact that the online tools are poorly developed. In fact, using a different browser not only gives the user interface a different "look," it also is a completely different experience, asking different questions, etc. Good lord! In principal, the idea that everyone has health care is good, or that insurance companies cannot deny coverage for pre-existing conditions. But the additional mountain of male bovine manure we have to deal with because of a law that is in excess of 2,000 pages that very few have read, or understand, is likely to do more harm than good.
akindheart · 61-69, F
i am very sorry because i know what you are going through. i wish i could help.
HedoZen
3 years ago I went retired. My private health care paid via my employer was temporarily canceled the time to switch from employee to retired status. I or anyone in my province who don't have private Healthcare dial 1-800-RAMQ and here you go, we have full coverage medication included. Lots think canadians don't pay for it but we do via our taxes, we don't see it.
akindheart · 61-69, F
my sonlives in europe. He is on national health care and it is remarkable. he pays a part of their income and his care has been much better than in the US...something has got to give...this plan needs to be fixed. many in the US have given up. People who have cancer can't meet the deductibles, out of pockets and premiums...sad but true
HedoZen
Ya my bf was telling me how the system works in europe, that includes doctors in each ambulance in France that is
akindheart · 61-69, F
the doctors in my son's country found problems he didn't even know he had...they were thorough and awesome..they pay for healthcare through their income
acco73
It is bad on the "front" end for the people trying to get enrolled - it is also unprofitable for the insurance companies to provide, without government subsidies. And those go away after this year, so even fewer companies will be offering insurance in the future. Classic government program...
acco73
Well, you "know" they are very concerned about identity theft... so of course they shred the documents they have demanded from you! Just think what would happen if they left those docs lying around somewhere, or entered them into some "health care system". A govt employee might take their govt laptop home with everybody's information and lose it... Oh wait, that has happened how many times already... ;)
akindheart · 61-69, F
very true...but to keep resubmitting them over and over...i am going to scan them and upload them...we are talking about an inch thick of docs
Dreampoet
I tried to sign up and the site was so messed up you couldnt even get it to work.
Hikingguy
And yet we love this program being shoved down our throats! I can see insurance being mandated, but let's keep it in the private sector and let us have the ability to choose a plan right for us! Including catastrophic coverage which is amazing if you are young and healthy.
akindheart · 61-69, F
National health care works and it could here if we didn't have such greedy people. People will unneccesarily die because they can't figure out this program
Hikingguy
If you go back a few years you will find that it was the Heritage Foundation who originally came up with the idea of a national healthcare system. Obviously waaaaaaaaaaaay different than this pile of crap.
KindHeartedGuy
It's a horrible idea. I think employers should get out of the healthcare business and government should have some sort of offering but this was never the way to go.

This is why I always think elections are fixed. I could see Obama getting elected the first time. I haven't a clue how Romney didn't win.

One more year.
akindheart · 61-69, F
I am with you on every single sentence...my coworker worked on the Romney campaign...she said it was fixed...
Carissimi
I feel for you. You are right. It's been the same for me, and the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. They know nothing or if they give you information, you find out it's wrong and now you are in a mess with taxes because of their mistake.
I hate it too.
akindheart · 61-69, F
C, that is exactly what happened to my brother. He filed his taxes with THEIR flawed tax form. AFTER he filed, he got an amended one. I feel like it is entrapment. The form letters don't tell you what they are asking for. So when i write, i explain EVERYTHING for my brother. Now if they remove the credit or lower it, i have to find another plan for him.
Carissimi
They need to fix this mess.

What happens if you want to travel? You still have to pay the premiums, but will not be covered out of state. It limits your movements. Now planning your personal life has to include the government.
billybcgn25
"Resistance is futile; you will be assimilated." That is what Obamacare is all about. To turn the citizens into mere subjects of the bureaucracy, which ever increasingly grinds the subjects down until they are instead serfs.
akindheart · 61-69, F
you said it well. i have never been so frustrated in my life. there is no way my brother would have figured this out...no way
Dreampoet
Its a nightmare.
showstar
It not the Affordable Care Act. Insurance is Legalized Organized Crime. Right or Left no one has our best interest in mind.
akindheart · 61-69, F
the sad thing is that people need this but it has become so complicated, it is far from affordable. Each time i hit a brick wall, i come here and vent.
SmartKat
Exactly. Get the damn insurance companies out of the picture. They're the bottleneck every time I've had a problem.
akindheart · 61-69, F
you are absolutely right...
sciguy18
Maybe this will help?
http://www.legalconsumer.com/obamacare/topic.php?TopicID=99&ST=FL
akindheart · 61-69, F
i read it and i agree with all the problems listed. i contacted so many bureaus to no avail. when my brother had his surgery, the hospital kept his deductible and did not report we had paid it...they held the money hostage. had they reported it paid, we would have had no problems. i had to threaten legal action 2 MONTHS later!!!!
sciguy18
Hope you get it all sorted out. P.S. - You are a good sister...
akindheart · 61-69, F
he saw me screaming at the marketplace rep and he quietly said thank you for all you do...LOL. i was coming unglued...but thank you very much!!
mrmoose1947b
the cost for me, under the program, would be over 500 per month! so much for "free"
Hikingguy
to cover me an my family - $1100.00. Another house payment.
SmartKat
It was never meant to be free. And there is no way that any kind of healthcare system could ever be free. We would pay for it one way or another.
.
Personally, I don't care HOW they do it - as long as I can get the healthcare I need for a price that will not force me to choose between health care and rent or food.
.
Taxation? OK with me, if they are spending my money on something that's good for me.
.
Private industry? Also OK, if they do not find 10,000 excuses to gouge me for money and refuse to cover things I need.
mrmoose1947b
and i should pay for your and my health care
blkrhino
I understand what you mean. That's why I went to an insurance company and they did it for me
akindheart · 61-69, F
i have followed all the steps yet still have met nothing but frustration. there is no way my brother could have figured this out on his own
blkrhino
I agree with you
RedEyesBlackDragon
You are correct that The whole program is really useless and doesn't seem to benefit people the way it claims
tyingknots
That's why I call it obamadoesn'tcare!
akindheart · 61-69, F
good call!! it is supposed to help those who need it most yet, no one can figure it out
secretlyhonest1
A single payer system would be much better
akindheart · 61-69, F
they need to remove the politics out period!
raymond216
I know a friends got their eyes fixs because of obamcare
RealSouthernGentleman
you write Obama and Obamacare sucks
akindheart · 61-69, F
yes it sure does!!
Dreampoet
You got that right
akindheart · 61-69, F
I received another form letter last night that they had not received our income information...guess what? i sent it in a day after they requested it...now you know why we are so poor in the US...ineptitude
