I Hate Obamacare

Here I go again. The problems never seem to end with this program.

People are penalized for not having insurance yet the average person could never, ever figure out the program.

i have my masters in insurance, maybe the other kind, but i am constantly battling this monster.

My brother was given a credit and now they take it away. They gave him a BIGGER credit this year and now we are receiving threatening letters demanding more information but they don't tell us what is needed. It is entrapment.

I sent in so many payroll docs, it cost me almost 4.00 to send yet they shredded it. Since they are questioning his income, i have to resend not only this years but last.

the letters state to call the Marketplace yet those yahoos can't answer any questions at all AFTER being on the phone with them for 45 minutes at a shot.

I honestly have had enough.

It's about being looked after! You pay enough tax so it's only right you are looked after! A rich country that doesn't look after its people is a poor country! Get with the programme! We've had healthcare in Europe for nearly 100 years - it's long past time you caught up!!

my son lives in europe.i know it works there. he is evidence of that but it is NOT working here...too much bureacracy. the other problem is they are making it VERY difficult to comply. they have seen something yet won't explain what we need to clarify

The nhs is the UK is not working! We look after everyone else in Europe just not the actual UK citizens who are paying for it. And don't get me started on the Drs who hold the country to ransom because they are oftener an 11% pay rise but Saturday's will become part of the working week...!

The NHS is working! We have a reciprocal arrangement in the EU that if we fall ill in France or another EU country they will treat us as we will treat their countrymen if they fall ill in UK. Later on the bills for each country are squared up. Don't believe the right wing press!
MrSquishy
The NHS works very well...as for looking after everyone else in Europe, how do you support that allegation? When British pensioners retire to France, or Spain or Italy, many of them don't transfer the cost to the UK health service, it is taken charge of by their new country of residence...And I have been living in the UK for 20 years and was hospitalised only once...should I claim back my NHS contributions considering that I paid more than I got out of it?
Let's be sensible if anything the NHS is a great system, it is perfectible, but it is not bad at all. As for Doctors...maybe you should ask your GP how long they studied for, and how many hours they work. Many UK trained doctors and nurses leave the UK simply because they get paid much better elsewhere. Maybe improving their working conditions and their salaries is not such a bad idea.
MrSquishy
You draw generalisations there about European health systems AKH. I am french and I have lived in the UK for 20 years, although both systems are heavy administratively, they do deliver very good health care. The public health insurance is a fair system. I have many friends in the US who rely solely on private or work healthcare and it is a very unequal system, and they spend an incredible amount of time on the phone with insurance companies to get the care they are normally entitled to. Although there are some limitations in the Uk, the health care they deliver is very good and if you look at the world ranking of health delivery performance, you will find that European systems ranks at the top.

Starting rate is 26k for a first time job as a doctor but most earn over 30k because they double for working on sat! Yes they study for years but so do other degrees and careers. Many nurses get a free bursary that they don't have to pay back. The amount that is paid back is minimal on average £9 per month and yes over 30 years but then the rest is wiped out after 30yr so most don't get paid back in full.
When I went over to Europe, travelled from France to Greece I HAD to have travel insurance which I paid for without it I wouldn't of got any care.
I pay several thousand pounds in taxes every year but still have to pay £20 to see a dentist for 5mins and wait 3weeks to see a doctor.
Most jobs now days class sat as a working day and even sun. People who work in retail are not offered extra pay because it's a sat and some not even for working sunday.
Oh and I can tell you my gp works 9-5 mon to fri. Nurses work 8-6 Monday to Friday and alternative Saturdays 9-12 but you have to prove that you can't make a week day appoint first and once again usually have to wait at least a week.

Oh and if the nhs was ok then why is that year after year it runs up several billion worth of debt.
Doctors and nurses moving abroad to work then maybe we should do what those countries do and change the nhs.
MrSquishy
Doctors study for a minimum of 7 years, and they have our lives in their hands, I think 30 K isn't an unreasonable start salary.
Secondly nurses are so poorly paid that most of them go working abroad. Those who don't go abroad change career after a few years because the job is so hard. So the offer of free training is the only way to guarantee there are enough nurses.
Next...travel insurance...it doesn't' have anything to do with healthcare, it covers for you to come back home in case of emergency. To have free healthcare in France (Or other EU countries) you must get a E111 card before you leave, if you haven't got it done in time, you can still get health care, you will just have to pay forward the costs and get it paid back by the NHS on your return in the UK.
You should inform yourself better before criticizing.

I don't know the healthcare system in UK but my son lives in Austria and he is very well taken care of with no fuss. they are very thorough since he has a very rare disease..

My travel insurance stated for 'medical care from £100 up to £10,000 worth of treatment'
My aunt was a nurse and has done very well for herself and has a VERY nice pension. My partners sister was a midwife which was a free degree and is now getting free degree to become a health visitor she too is doing well for herself.

i always take out health care travel insurance...just in case
MrSquishy
Again...you should call NHS directs and ask for information on E111. You probably didn't need the travel insurance you took. And rather than slagging the NHS you should read up a little.
Calvexz
I have first hand knowledge of the nhs and not just through my aunt being a nhs nurse for the majority of her career. The e111 or ehic card as it's now know isn't the same and general only used for immediate attention while in EU. It also only gives the same level of medical health that the country would give its only citizens and not always for free. There are many people who with the ehic had to pay and then try to get reimbursed.
The nhs is full of overpaid paper pushers and not essential medical workers. Just one of the reasons why I chose to work in medical research instead of the nhs.
Go educate yourself and work for the nhs then see how great you think it is on the inside
