Now you mentioned it it came across my mind a few times in the past few days in Huddersfield

@kiterunner101 ok where is that Scotland?

I get seagulls and pigeons flocking onto my roof and it's not funny because of their lack of toilet training. I think as we humans have increasingly encroached on natural habitats, the creatures that don't die off will adapt to living with us. That includes trying to snatch carrion off the roads in between traffic.
Yorkshire folk are proud of their stubborn persistence, so it shouldn't be surprising if the birds are equally so. 😄

@FreddieUK I used to find the song of the blackbird beautiful. But after three months being woken by continuous dawn chorus my reaction is now "Can't you just stop thinking about sex for one day?" 😬
The pigeons seem to be rolling about on our kitchen roof.

@SunshineGirl They only think about it in the Spring and Summer...which is why they fly half way around the world, so that it's always Spring or Summer. 😄
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@SunshineGirl LOL! It's territory-indicating as well as sex.
Uncfred · 70-79, M
I drive at 5:15am, I get the same, but they keep my driving speed down. Noticed it more recently, must be the heat.
Strongtea · 22-25, M
Oh gosh! I live in Yorkshire and haven’t noticed this phenomenon, but I’ll look out for it.
Gingerbreadspice · F
I remember thinking this a few years ago when I almost kept getting hit by birds every time I was walking. It turns out it was nesting season.
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
I think they're fat with an abundance of food and a little bit dozy in this heat, like the rest of us. Last night I saw two enormous fallow deer waddling out of the woods.
Khenpal1 · M
@SunshineGirl I hear them at 3am , but early birds have good voice . The pest are those from 6am.
OldBrit · 61-69, M
Get the fu stare from pigeons on our roads. Magpies just been so noisy this summer. My wife reckons it's due to drought less food for the little ones so they're antsy.
cherokeepatti · 70-79, F
@OldBrit I saw a grackle (a type of black bird that is very populous in our state. Some of them hang out in parking lots of store) today at Sam’s Club (a store ware house). It was standing in front of a parked car pulling insects out of a car’s grill, moths and grasshoppers. So yeah they are getting creative when it gets hot and they don’t want to fly all over the place to find food. I have never seen a bird do that before.

In Yorkshire eh? Only there?
Perhaps they've flown in from t'other county.
Could be they are affected by the heat, unless that's not as bad in the North.
