I Do Not Support Gun Control

I would hate that the government could take away my guns. I have a right to have them.

When you hear about the school shootings, the senseless murders from people that have mental issues. I think that we need to realize that we cannot control everything. I feel badly for all involved the parents, the children, teachers, community, getting killed in schools. That is tragic and sadly becoming a common thing.

I remember when I was a kid, I never heard of any such thing happening. I think our society has made some huge changes that have affect peoples minds, their thought processes and the lack of taking ownership for their behavior.

In a nutshell, people have lost what I was taught as a child, morals, respect have integrity. We respected our elders, teachers, other parents, older siblings, people of authority, etc. We brought up children as a community. Parents, grandparents, teachers, church community and the neighborhood community. Kids were taken care of and we knew we had people that cared about us if our parents were absent.

Now no one wants to get involved because they will probably get more in trouble than if they had stayed out of it. So children are falling through the cracks. They have no one to go to any more. Many teacher want to be "Friends" now and not a person of authority so that does not help.

It takes one good action that you do for a kid to effect their lives forever. You might never know it, but that kid will remember it. I know I had one person do that for me. She changed my belief in something and I remember her to this day. One bad action could harm a child for life as well. It takes one comment from a person to make a kid feel that he does not matter and once that is in him, it will stay for a while unless he learns to dismiss it. Enough of my thoughts.

Now that you are done romanticizing (and fictionalizing) the past, let's talk about "your" rights. You, along with the rest of us, have a right to own a gun, but not to do with whatever we please whenever we please. And, that right under the full enforcement of the 2nd Amendment does not apply to every type of gun or extend to every type of weapon never imagined when the original right was bestowed to you, and the rest of us.

No one is trying to take away your precious guns, or the guns from anyone else. Despite the talking points that riled up many gun owners in the past, Obama was not trying to take away your guns, Hillary Clinton wasn't, nor anyone else. Military exercises in Texas during the Obama Administration that extremist gun owners sounded the alarm about as a ploy to declare martial law and suspend the 2nd Amendment NEVER took place. In the 21st century (or any century, for that matter) there is no reason, rationale, or right for a citizen to own a military grade gun designed exclusively to kill massive amounts of humans. You don't need such a weapon for safety, security, or hunting. In fact, if you are using such a gun or think you might need such a gun for hunting like the one used in the latest school shooting, you know nothing about the sport of hunting and should be banned from it - for life.

Instead of relying on talking points you get from the gun manufacturing trade association, also known as the NRA, start thinking for yourself. Hopefully, when you were a kid you were taught how to do that. Go back and review that lesson. As a reminder, it's called, "thinking for yourself."

Saying we can't control everything as a way to justify, "let's not do anything" has sadly been an effective talking point... up to now. That is going to change. You will still have guns, but we will have stronger gun control regulations. It won't stop every instance of gun abuse, but it will stop some. It won't eliminate crazy people from our society, but it will deter some of them from getting guns in the first place and reduce the number who have access to military style weapons. And guess what, only a single success IS a success.

If you don't know better than reciting NRA talking points, you should stop and think (for yourself). Yes, it takes effort, but there is a reward for it. You will feel better about yourself as you continue to use your guns in ways the Constitution guarantees. And, it will act as a deterrent in case you or anyone of the rest of us thinks about using guns for ways the Constitution or its signers never intended for them to be used. And, for goodness sakes, acknowledge a solution does not have to "control everything" for it to be effective.
@MarkPaul MarkPaul, obviously you were triggered in my post. You do realize that i am but one woman? You do realize that I might like milk chocolate and you like dark? I will not go into whatever you posted and dissect it. This is my profile and what I do with it is my decision so hopefully someone else will read it more fully than I did.

These are my views and while I did not get into more on gun control than I could because I choose to go at it this way in my posting does not mean that I do not have more thoughts or believes.

As for Obama, I try to keep politics out of my postings. I disliked Obama royally and while that is also my right, I could care less if you love him and he gives you tingles on your leg. As for Hilary, lets not go there. I think you know where my thoughts go on her.

@MarkPaul Why don't you go be a little boy on someone else's profile?

@LoveYouLoveMe Why don't you act like the adult you seem to claim you want to be?
@MarkPaul I did act like an adult. I sent you a message. Reply....... See the way I see it, this is my profile. If you want to rat and rave about your opinions fine...... but i do not need your attacks on my person or you trying to put me down so that you can feel more than a 20 year old "KID" wanting to be a man. I do not need to defend myself to you or anyone else. So answer the message or go away and find someone else to pester.
@MarkPaul Hilarious! You've memorized Gun Control For Dummies. Congrats.

"...every type of weapon never imagined..." is gun control code for "we think the 2A only applies to muskets." Ever hear of the Pickle Gun? Google it. It was touted as the world's first machine gun. Patented 80 years BEFORE the 2A was ratified. To infer that back in the late 18th century that no one could imagine advancements in technology that would make firearms more accurate, and efficient is ridiculous. Can you imagine that 300 into the future, a weapon might be created that would render today's firearm obsolete? Of course you can.

"No one is trying to take your guns..." I am ROFLMAO. In Hillary's 2016 campaign, she said she supported Australian style gun control. Obama has said he supported it as well. Guess what? Australia took away the people's guns. Oops! Dianne Feinstein and Mario Cuomo have both stated they support gun bans and confiscation tactics. Former chief justice Paul Stevens has called for a flat out repeal of the 2A. To say that no one is trying to take them away is simply wrong.

Then you give us the classic, "there is no reason, rationale, or right for a citizen to own a military grade gun designed exclusively to kill massive amounts of humans..." Guess what? Almost every gun a citizen can own has been used by the military. Let's examine this in more detail. Can you buy a Colt 1911 ACP .45? Of course you can...and it was used and still is use by the military for more than 100 years. How about a Baretta M9? Yep, that one too. How about a Remington, Mossberg or Benelli shotgun? Yep...used in combat and you can buy those also. How about a bolt action rifle? Popular with hunters and snipers alike. And you know what's even weirder? I KNOW it's really the AR-15 you had in mind in your original post. And of all of the guns I mentioned above, guess which one was never used by the military. That's right...the AR-15.

Guess what else? The AR-15 was originally patented in 1957 as a varmint gun. It wasn't until 1963 that the military requested that the design be modified for select fire (both semi-auto and full auto capability) before adopting it as the M-16. Contrary to "gunitard myth," the AR-15 is not a military arm modified for civilian use.

I see you lecturing others here about repeating the NRA narrative and for not thinking for themselves. And yet you are doing the exact same thing...everything you babble here is right out of the Gun Control For Dummies handbook. And what's worse...you are wrong about every point you make.

My last is this quote, "Saying we can't control everything as a way to justify, 'let's not do anything'." Wrong thinking. The reason we strongly disagree with one another is that someone like you is not willing to accept the real issue.

The problem is human behavior, and deep down, you know that's something the government really cannot control. If someone is evil and motivated to commit murder, what law could possibly stop them?

The only people who will obey the laws and the law abiding. And they aren't the problem.
