So long as they are taking money out of my check, they’re not shut down.
HoeBag · 46-50, F
@redredred Ain't that the GD truth. 😬

carpediem · 61-69, M
Always wanted to reduce the size of government. Many thanks to the democrats for giving the president the tools to quickly do it.
@carpediem What additional tools have been used?

Trump just waited until the shutdown to do it so he could blame the Democrats, no new tools have been used and most of what has been cut so far are the items like Education department that was already going to shutdown.

Nothing new or no new tools being used... nothing that Trump couldn't have done in February.

it is not a negociation strategy. nowhere in any other line of business is refusual to work post payment (the payment being our taxes) considered a negociation strategy.

i think that taking "negociation strategy" off the table and conversing about it is a more honest starting point. that and in the idea that refusal to work or pay for work post work is in this context theft on 2 different levels

level 1 is wage theft to the federal employees even if they get back pay because the didn't get paid on time andlevel 2 is theft of services to the public who paid for those services through their taxes and were than denied access to those services after payment was secured. The thieves being the party in power that facilitated the shutdow.
specman · 51-55, MVIP
@ElwoodBlues I wish the government would open to stop the hardship on federal employees and their families
@specman Me too. They're pawns in a rich man's game.
@specman
a lot of federal employees are getting fired

Yes, but not because of the shutdown...

They were signaling that those employees positions would be fired anyways months ahead of time, they just waited until now, so they could blame the shutdown and blame the Democrats.

Like the department of Education firings, they have been trying to completely get rid of that department as it only helps poor people, and Trump doesn't need or want that. And they were shutting it down anyways.

I have not (YET) seen one employee been fired that they weren't talking about getting rid of those positions many MONTHS ago.

They (SO FAR) have nothing to do with the shutdown, other than Trump is trying to claim it's due to the shutdown. But really they just waited until now, so they could blame the Democrats.
AmericanAvenger · 56-60, M
It obviously needs to happen if the Dems are going to continue to insist that Americans take care of dryfronts.

I was in the fed govt and the waste and bloat was like nothing I ever saw in the half dozen major corporations that I was with for years. It was laughable and sad at the same time. American taxpayers are getting hosed and no one really knew it until this Administration.
PatKirby · M
@AmericanAvenger

I work as a contractor for the army alongside low-performance civil servants that sleep for hours at their government desks. Guess who they layoff when RIFs come around? Yep, us high performers.

But this time around Trump's RIF is on them now as they're getting slaughtered at work and fear for their jobs they took for granted for so long. Some have taken the early retirement package, some severance, etc.. but overall no more lazy bones at work. HA!
Kwek00 · 41-45, M
77,3 million people voted for this. 🤷‍♂ It's what you get when you vote in a bunch of radicals, that by definition can't make consensus, in a system that was build around the idea of consensus making. It's also ironic, in the sense that the guy who "wrote" the "Art of the Deal", is also unable to make deals and is now the president that has more days of shut-down governement then any other president in US history. The other 75 million, should be pissed off ... because they didn't vote for this, and it's all really stupid.
Prison1203 · 61-69, M
@swirlie if the book is so bad why did you read it 4 times? And he built his empire by making deals others couldn’t. And keep lying to yourself about Trump voters distancing themselves from Trump it’s just more libturd propaganda, if anything we are growing stronger after the killing of Charlie Kirk
swirlie · 31-35
@Prison1203
Actually Prison, I read the book 4 times because I couldn't figure out what I was missing each time I'd read it, because Trump never came forward and told what he was actually trying to tell the reader.

He mostly did a lot of rambling and got off topic a lot, but then never came back to finish what he was saying, which means he really never had anything to say in the first place because he really wasn't the Trump Corp deal-maker after all.

Donald Trump did not make deals. His only function in Trump Corp was finding banks or private investors who would invest their money in Trump Corp, which Trump Corp to this day have never re-paid any of their investors, nor paid them interest on their investment.

Donald Trump did not build an empire. Donald Trump's father, the Late Fred Trump is who masterminded Trump Corp, not Donald.

You don't have to look very far to see how far MAGA is pissedoff with Trump because Trump misled MAGA, in fact he totally deceived them. Everyone knows that, including FoxNews.

Charlie Kirk is dead for a good reason. He was becoming more popular than Donald and Donald didn't like it. The Charlie Kirk right-wing movement is now dead because it too died when Charlie was knocked off. And no, Charlie's wife is not carrying the torch on behalf of Charlie because she ain't Charlie and she doesn't have Charlie's MAGA following supporting her and never will.

Only in America!

The reason the US government is shut down is because nobody would vote 'yes' to raise the debt ceiling so that the Fed could borrow $5Trillion more dollars to make the required monthly payments for the interest-owing on the US Nation Debt, which is now almost $40T.

By shutting down the government, they save money which amounts to the same thing as borrowing more money to pay the Federal employees PLUS pay the monthly interest-owing on the National Debt. Shutting down the government is therefore a great way to keep expenses low and manageable!

Trump actually thought that tariffs would solve the National Debt crisis but all tariffs have done is put Americans in the poor house.
First the ones in the ground have to be dig up, then transported then prepared for sale and actually sold. All of these middlemen take profits. The original assets may not be as much as projected. There are also all the environmentalists who will work to stall everything. @swirlie
swirlie · 31-35
@jackjjackson
We do all that in-house here. It's sort of like digging up a bunch of dirt and driving the truck right to the bank and dumping it at the Teller's booth, then asking for it all to be converted into easy-to-carry currency. Easy peezy!
I see. (Sounds like baloney 🤪) @swirlie

I think the Democrats should agree to the clean cr to open the government while they hash out their demands
SlippingAway · 46-50, F
I am not thrilled about it
goliathtree · 56-60, M
Wait....it shut down?
HoeBag · 46-50, F
@goliathtree Yeah, a GOVT shut down is when the government doesn't work.... which is no different than normal. 🤔

We'll talk about it.
HoeBag · 46-50, F
I could not care less. I thought the government shut down at least a few times a year.

It kind of reminds me of when a child is having a tantrum and says, "If I do not get my way, I am going to hold my breath!"

PFFT Okay, go right the h3ll ahead. 🙄

If the govt is shut down, does that mean trump will shut UP for a while? ...is there even a chance? 😬
@HoeBag Nope, not a chance, and the opposite, he might talk more...

Also he might try to create distractions...
HoeBag · 46-50, F
@sstronaut The part about "distractions" scared me a bit. 😬 No really, it did.

I mean what startling revelation will ol Donny bless us with next time? What perils of wisdom will befall his tongue? Oh something F****** wonderful; I just know it. 🥹

I mean he comes up with some BULL that would have Rod Serling scratching his head.
AnnaWasHere · 22-25, F
It's more of the same. Intelligent decision making died when Trump re-ascended the throne.

Me laughing at your post has absolutely nothing to do with me agreeing with Republicans or agreeing with anyone who looks like a Republican!

What I was laughing at was your naïvety combined with your obtuse perception of America's overall state of poor economic health as a Nation, which seems very odd for an American guy your age.
Theyitis · 36-40, M
@swirlie Okay, well America’s overall state of poor economic health as a Nation is only going to get much worse if everyone’s healthcare costs quadruple because Republicans wouldn’t extend Obamacare subsidies. On the other hand, America’s overall state of poor economic health as a Nation is getting worse anyway because non-essential government services are getting put on hold, Federal workers are having to work without pay, and Trump’s laying off any Federal workers that might be Democrats. So basically the middle class is caught between a rock and a hard place.
swirlie · 31-35
@Theyitis
That is precisely correct... all of it.
Iwillwait · M
Huh? Who cares?

...and do what?
acpguy · C
Great, they can get rid of a lot of liberals hiding in departments that are going to be eliminated.
PatKirby · M
@acpguy

They're already getting rid of some of these where I work. Don't get me wrong, there are some who work hard at what they do but they're not the parasites.
AmericanAvenger · 56-60, M
@PatKirby I have been laid off from private sector jobs 3 times in my life. No one cries for you when you getting cut in the private sector. No one acts like you were entitled to the job no matter how long or how hard you worked it. Somehow, people seem to think it should be different for federal workers. I have been both - the only difference is that the government doesn't have the pressure to make a profit or reduce costs that private companies have. That is how government gets fat, bloated, and inefficient - and that has led to reduction in force.
PatKirby · M
@AmericanAvenger

Been laid off twice myself. An adjacent private contractor in the next room just laid off 160 employees a few days ago. These are hard working and efficient people. Civil servants I work with just got assigned some of their jobs. These are inefficient, slow, and incredibly entitled workers that make lots of mistakes regarding parts that go into fighter aircraft here. This may, down the line, compromise the warfighter's mission or even put life in jeopardy.

The RIF'd contractors will likely be cherry picked down the road by the next contractor that picks up the slack. I hope they come back.
JoyfulSilence · 51-55, M
Annoying. I got shit to do at work. But I cannot work due to the shutdown.

Yet I get a paid vacation! Unless I get RIF'd.
JoyfulSilence · 51-55, M
@AmericanAvenger

I am.

But with my skills I'd likely find another, unless there is age discrimination. Also, I am close to retirement so maybe I could retire early. As long as there is a full pension.

A judge just temporarily blocked the RIFs, while the shutdown is still on. So now I wait.
AmericanAvenger · 56-60, M
@JoyfulSilence What skills make you likely to find another job?

I am a mathematician with over a quarter-century of experience. They need me more than I need them!

Chuck Schumer and What's his name with the Sombrero have a lot to answer for. This attempt by the Democrats to "NEGOTIATE" (force), funding for failed Obama-care by shutting down the government is criminal.

America, love it or leave it!
@AmericanAvenger Joe Rogan and Marjorie Taylor Greene are now saying it's wrong for them to be going after all the illegals who have been here for years with no police records.

Which some records suggest is more than 70% of those whom they're arresting.

@ScreamingFox They don't. It's a Republican fantasy.

My Republican fantasy has been that the DemonRat party fracture into several pieces and basically disappear. This dream is being gradually realized before our very eyes.

Being in the decaying DemonRat party these days is like whistling past the cemetery. May the fleas of a thousand wild running hyenas infest what's Left of the DemonRat carcass.
