I don't know why any air traffic controller or member of the military would show up to work and not be paid.
I have always refused to serve on jury duty, because I refuse to work without being paid for it.

@independentone pretty sure all the employees are on admin leave and will be paid once the govmint decides to blink.

as for those that work - they will get paid as well

as for the military - they work or face judicial punishment for being absent without leave - as they will get paid as well
@Pretzel That may well be, but I refuse to work if I have to wait for my money. Anyone serving in the military under the Trump administration should just walk off and quit.

@independentone have you served in the military before? I haven't but a lot of my family have -

I suspect that you're walking off would get you reduced in grade and possibly in the brig

but hey - you do you
@Pretzel I was in the Marines, but was drafted and I was never very good at taking orders. My claim to fame is I was in the last group of draftees ever drafted by the Marine Corps.

@independentone
How do you manage to not serve for jury duty and get away with it?
@swirlie I had gone to Universal Studios and got a goth outfit and had my hair spiked then showed up, never said a word, just glared at everyone. They dismissed me within 15 minutes and I've never heard from them again

@independentone dang that's great thinking - I did think about showing up in a grim reaper outfit. I'm in Flirda and once I hit 70 I get a permanent exemption!
@Pretzel It was a lot of fun, I did get busted outside the courtroom, getting on the elevator one of the others saw me smile. They just laughed and said good job faking them out!

@independentone A Marine that could not take orders? So not a real Marine?
@DogMan Drafted, so I really didn't care
DogMan · 61-69, M
@independentone My Dad was drafted into the 88th infantry in 1942, he cared enough to spend over 1 1/2 years on the
front lines in Italy. Wounded twice, and suffered from trench feet and nightmares the rest of his life.

But he was still proud of his service, and took orders.
@DogMan ok, different war, different times. WWII was one thing, Nam was a bogus political war. I didn't care.

@DogMan
Your father didn't have any choice in the matter but to take orders, whether he wanted to take orders or not. Taking orders therefore, was not your father's choice as you've otherwise eluded to.

The reason your father was assigned to the front lines in Italy was because he was drafted into WWII, which means your father was not a willing volunteer who was willing to serve his country. That means your father did not show up at the Recruitment office on his own and volunteer his service to serve his country. The US government had to force his hand by drafting him, which means forcing him to show up and be ready to take orders.

Your father was drafted into the Infantry as were 61% of all US Servicemen during WWII, which means 61% of the US soldiers in the US military did not volunteer to serve their country, which actually means they were forced against their will to serve their country which is what "draft" means.

The other reason your father was assigned to the front lines as an Infantryman was again because he was drafted, which means draftees did not have a choice of assignment for more elite military postings, unlike 'volunteers who voluntarily Enlisted' who got to choose which branch of the US military they would serve in, such as the Air Force for example.

I should also point out that during WWII, the Air Force was not comprised of draftees to fly airplanes! The Air Force was comprised of voluntary Enlistees who wanted to be there, unlike draftees who didn't give a shitte and were forced against their will to be there, which is why all draftees ended up in the Infantry Division and usually as front line soldiers. There were many Enlisted Infantrymen who ended up on the front line as well, but draftees didn't have a choice in the matter of where they ended up.

So when you say shitte like "A Marine that could not take orders? So not a real Marine?", keep in mind that your own father was not a real soldier either when you stoop to those terms, because your father was drafted and not a voluntary Enlistee and don't you ever forget that.
@swirlie You are correct about most of it, but there was no Air Force in the beginning of WWII it was called the Army Air Corps -

Do you think my post was all about semantics?
