Should so-called oligarchs have any place in democracies?

Should unelected people have any place in the democratic process of government? In Britain there was a man called Cummings who made the news during the pandemic, and now in America there is the non-American man of the moment who has his own media platform, Elon Musk.

Musk is American.

Oligarchs have typically achieved their wealth and and power through political connections.

Musk earned his oligarch status, when he added 50% to his wealth thanks to his political connections.

Referring to Hollywood icons as oligarchs is laughable. Oligarchs not only got wealth through power, but are not merely influencers, they force policy.

Calling Soros an oligarch, is also laughable. He did not force policy.

@Northwest Hollywood is certainly an influencer of societal change. It’s ridiculous to limit oligarchy as only being achievable through “force” of government. Very limited in thinking, indeed.

Hollywood is certainly an influencer of societal change.

Looks like you're having a strenuous argument with yourself, because I did not state or suggest that Hollywood players are not influencers.

What I said:

It’s ridiculous to limit oligarchy as only being achievable through “force” of government.

Yet, in fact, this is the very dictionary definition of the term.

noun
a small group of people having control of a country, organization, or institution.
a country governed by an oligarchy.
"the English aristocratic oligarchy of the 19th century"
government by an oligarchy.

Elon Musk is using his wealth and unelected government position, to force societal change that will effect all people. This is not about influence. It's about forced change.

Very limited in thinking.

Indeed you are.

He is South African 🇿🇦 or so I read somewhere. Certainly, he isn’t British so why he’s getting involved there I don’t know!

He is an American citizen. Nearly 14% of Americans are not born in the USA. We are a country of immigrants and those Americans came from somewhere else, but are, nevertheless, Americans.

As to why he wants to stick his nose into British affairs, that's what Musk does.

On paper, he's worth hundreds of $Billions. He invested more than $250 Million, in less than 100 days, using Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and other outreach efforts, to swing the election in favor of Donald Trump.

In return, he's getting rewarding with an unelected position, that will give me power over policy in the USA for all of us Americans, and will affect our social lives, economy and ethics.

Trump believes he's got a mandate, through the elections results, to do that, and our voters spoke. If they don't like it, then they only have themselves to blame.

In addition to awarding himself this position, Musk also helped another American, though German born, Peter Thiel, impose one of his employees, and a minor one at that, as the elected Vice-President of the USA.

The total The Manchurian Candidate scenario.

@Northwest Admittedly, your contradictions of yourself are very taxing to follow--- It's "laughable," according to you, that Soros can be considered an oligarch yet you find it, seemingly beyond a doubt, that Musk is a oligarch and out to force change upon you and the U.S.-- Tell us, is he "forcing this change" on you at the point of a gun? Maybe he's financing dozens and dozens of political campaigns around the country to elect his chosen candidates as Soros does. Maybe

You sounding the alarm, as exaggerated about it as you are, of Musk isn't what I find so egregious about you, it's your hypocritical nonsense that Soros isn't guilty of what you are accusing Musk of doing.

So, truth be told about you, it's not "FORCED change" that causes such handwringing for you, it's that it's not the change you like. You would be happy with any "forced change" as long as it agrees with you politically. Democracy be damned, right?

Oh, our lexicon has changed over the last 2 centuries; please keep up.

I should give you possibly the original definition of oligarchy as defined by Aristotle

Bye, I'm done with you, now. Don't get up, stay down.

@Northwest But Musk is not the founder of Telsa, and did not develop the original technologies that go into Tesla (and now other) electric vehicle brands. He raped the company, drove out the founders, and created the Cult of Electric Jesus in his own image.

Musk holds triple citizenship, one of which is American. He was born in South Africa which makes him South African by birth, then he moved to Canada, then he moved to the USA with his mom when he was a teenager. He is therefore South African but holds dual citizenship with the USA and Canada, which is his only connection to the USA.

Musk was not the founder of Tesla, but I challenge, without doing an extensive search, to name the company founders.

He also also hundreds of $Millions from the Obama administration to invest in Tesla and take control.

He paid it off by issuing stock options, and promising cars that he never deliver to jack up hype in the company stock. The practice is technically illegal.

He also got hundreds of $Millions from the Obama Administration to start SpaceX.

He did not rape the company, but he drove off the founders. He then screwed the guy who actually ran Tesla, out of his stock options (French guy).

He did it all by cultivating the Electric Jesus cult, but he tossed them under the bus and brought to power the "dril baby drill" guy. Oddly enough, the cult is still sucking his dick.

You're trying to be exceptionally stupid today.

My response is the OP who stated that Musk is not American. It does not matter where he was born. He is now American.

As to which is his only connection to the USA 😂 😭

I would call ownership of several companies in the USA that employ tens of thousands highly paid Americans, a major connection to the USA.
