Actually, the old saying is "politics is a full contact sport."

I simply disagree with George Washington on whether political parties "would tear the country apart."
(Also disagree with him on owning slaves on a moral issue.)

@beckyromero Okay, but you could have disagreed with the point on political parties without bringing up his ownership of slaves, is my point.
You're one of the smarter people here. That's why I pointed this out. You might have plenty of legitimate reasons to think that Washington was wrong in his opinion of political parties, but what you did sounded to me like "Well, his opinion doesn't count because he owned slaves."

My post should have been more explanatory. It was late and I didn't give it more attention as I should have.
It wasn't to dismiss Washington's point about parties simply because he owned slaves.
It was only to point out that he could be fallible. As we all are.
Washington was living in a different time. He and others (Adams, Jefferson, etc.) are revered for what they did to start a new nation. But it doesn't mean every decision they made was the best one they could have. Some of the wording of the Constitution is the best example of that.

That's right. And if you don't act as part of the team, you don't get to complain about the results.

@LordShadowfire exactly.
