Abolish the electoral college?

What would happen? Republicans would never hold power again?

No, that’s ridiculous. In no world would it lead to a single party state. That’s delusional thinking.

What would actually happen is the Republican Party would become more moderate in an attempt to cultivate more voters. Then the Democrats would slowly move left instead of the constant shift to the right they’ve undergone for the last three decades.

This is the result of just a simple popular vote. Something like rank choice voting could even lead to more viable third parties. Or at least coalitions instead of just two parties.

Somehow this is opposed by those that shout the loudest about “we the people”, but they fail to realize the only word in that statement they care about is “we”.

Just remember, the world is on an endless march towards progress. God will not send judgement. It’s only us.

No justice, no peace.

There’s my political rant for the hour.

The EC is absolutely brilliant in its creation, existence and effectiveness. The middle of the country, referred to as the "fly over states" by liberals, are represented adequately by the brilliance of the EC. The coastal liberals should not determine how the whole of the country lives. It's here to stay.
@carpediem Amen to that.

@carpediem it needs adjustment at best and does not represent the people accurately. Its here to antiquate. It was designed to provide a weighted total of representation while accounting for slave ownership. Slavery is over the EC should be too.
@jehova no...it was designed specifically to prevent a handful of elites of gaining too much control. Sad when you see someone in your age range with no clue because the public education system did away with civics.

@BizSuitStacy f u. Grandpa! it isnt modern or fair it muffles democracy and neither you nor i really know what the ppl at the time were exactly trying to accomplish. Everyone has a theory(talking point) about it. No one knows. It is antiquated (obsolete) and literally contrary to a equal demcratic vote.

@BizSuitStacy the numbers simple dont support it being about democracy. It was about slaves being included in the relative weight of a states votes. That the population of slvaes (property at the time not included as a person in the fensus) which led to the 3 5th nonsense fyi (that were unable to vote) might be included in the total electoral value of an otherwise less populated state.

@jehova Its not going anywhere. It works perfectly as it is. Of course liberals want to change it to manipulate the system to skew towards them. Not happening Bucko. Oh, and by the way, we're representative republic. Not a pure democracy. You knew that right? Surely they covered that in gender studies.... 🤔

@BizSuitStacy and it was intended to add voting weight to states with fewer voters but more population bc of slaves owned. Just because you dont like reality doesnt change reality. Slave ownership was a thing when the EC was established. Slavery (in america) is NOW abolished but the institutions created to support and justify it are still established and active.

@carpediem and yes a representative republic is a REPUBLIC with democratic elections to elect a representative which is NOT a democracy. It IS a republic.
