If government was run "for the people"

It would eventually cease to exist.

A good government only "does for the people, what the people can not do for themselves collectively." Like build and maintain riads and bridges. Sign trade agreements with foreign countries. Maintain a strong military defense.

@calicuz in addition to national defense, public functions include the maintenance of domestic peace, public education, fire protection, traffic control, conservation of natural resources, flood control, postal services..
Further the very purpose of government is not to rule but to protect constitutional rights.
"The great and chief end, therefore, of men uniting into commonwealths, and putting themselves under government, is the preservation of their lives, liberties and property"

@calicuz When you find such a government please tell us so we can all come to the party. 8-)

Trusting government to pathologically 'do right' by ordinary citizens is a crucial flaw.

Yes, everything "the people" can not do for themselves collectively.

I agree with you 100 percent, and please note that I said "good government," so the US Government with all of it's corruption doesn't fit into that category yet. 😅
