there are no easy answers to the problem as the labour government is finding out which in turn the coalition government found out from the outgoing labour government 14 years ago albeit on a much smaller scale. Interestingly I am told that the Channel Islands have no problems with illegal immigrants as immigrants are not eligible for any financial support until they have been in the island for 5 years and i think contributed in some way to the economy too.

@gandalf1957 Asylum seekers to the UK are not allowed to work while their claims are being processed . . which can take years. It's a Catch-22 situation which conveniently feeds negative stereotypes of economic parasitism.
