In Church last Sunday, a sweet elderly lady in a nearby pew was heard saying a prayer. She was so innocent and sincere that I just had to share it with you:

"Dear Lord: The past year has been very tough. You have taken my favourite actors - Sean Connery, Kirk Douglas, and Diana Rigg; my favourite game show host - Alex Trebek; my favourite singer from the '50s - Little Richard; my two favourite country and western singers - Charlie Daniels and Kenny Rogers; my favourite football player - Gale Sayers, and my favourite basketball player - Kobe Bryant. As this New Year begins, I just wanted you to know that my favourite politicians are Donald Trump, Mitch McConnell, Ted Cruz, and Lindsey Graham. Amen."

She mustn't care about babies, who are being taken by the millions in the abortion mills thanks to Democrat policies.

Washington, D.C. Newsroom, Apr 4, 2024 / 16:40 pm

A pro-life Catholic lawmaker in the Nebraska Legislature is switching his party registration from Democrat to Republican because of the Democratic Party’s staunch support of abortion.

@graphite As a man are you in the least bit concerned about the effect your sperm has on the life of a woman who is not your wife? Who are you (or any man other than a husband) to dictate the future of another person's ability to live their own life? Yes, a woman becoming pregnant may be a sign of negligence on her part, but it may also be a result of desperation to find support, rape or just trusting the wrong male person. Yet you are concerned about an embryo that you would otherwise not be aware about - and blatantly put: don't really give a 'fuck' about supporting it.

@JollyRoger You don't even live in the US. Why do you care? Looks like your own prime minister has some serious problems.

Excerpt - Michael Higgins: Trudeau outdoes himself with another disastrous India trip
There seems to be no end to the embarrassment Trudeau can cause Canada

@graphite I care because no matter how quiet the neighbourhood is, when you know there's a possibility of a 'crazy' moving in next door, you don't really feel comfortable: 'Carrot-top' would sell anyone's baby to a butcher-shop for a single vote!
As for our PM.... We're seeing some serious 'jockeying' going on up here as the Conservatives are seeing the Liberals suddenly start delivering on some programs while their 'offers' don't hold much weight (yet). We're expecting to hear some real proposals coming from the Conservatives soon because of it BUT... for the present, they are just kicking up dust and name-calling. That's what you are seeing in those headlines. Suggestion: Check out the author of the story versus the action that occurred and you should see what I mean. If you've been following the 'India vs Canada' issue for a while you'll know that India is not our 'friend' at this time - They set out to make us look bad about 6 years ago and saw how it might cause a stir and embarrass the government, so, why not try it again?
Again: On the matter of immigration to Canada - yes, we have many (too many?) immigrants but there were crises that we met that caused that: Immigrants from Syria, immigrants from Ukraine, Immigrants from the USA (yes, your folks are moving here too (Do you wonder why??). We'll cope with that, but the 'temporary' ones will be the first tap to turn off - Our universities have been making money (2x tuition) charged against foreign students and that has put pressure on our domestic need for trained persons because the foreign ones leave afterward - taking the training with them and leaving us with a shortage of professionally trained people. The government is realizing that.
So - it's not just "Trudeau's fault" it's a combination of CoVID job loss, CoVID costs in general, world turmoil and a lack of resolve from young Candians to step up to take the open jobs that the immigrants are now taking, thus we have more people on welfare than the number who REALLY NEED assistance. Yes, it happened since the Liberals came into government, but even the Conservatives would have had to wear this stuff if it had been them 'on watch'.
Innocent my ass. My favorite politicians for that prayer are "all of them, they're such good honest people make sure they don't die the slow agonizing death that will make hell look like a welcome relief"
@Justafantasy While I do dislike most politicians, I think one of the biggest mistakes Americans have made is false equivalency. By saying they're all bad, we're equating people like Donald Trump and Mark Robinson with people like Mitt Romney and Chris Christie. What this does is normalize the politicians who are legit fascist.
@BohemianBoo I dislike them all. The funny thing is most arguments against someone specific work the other way as well. We have a minority government leading the country by a spoon fed trust fund raised drama teacher/snowboarding instructor who nobody actually wants leading the country.

@Justafantasy Not really: I take it you are a Canadian? You know that the PM is just a 'figurehead' for the rest of the government - he/she is the one who 'speaks' the overall direction that the DECIDED policy will take us. It's the Privy Council who formulates the policies, and yes, the elected MPs have a say as to how it goes (remember how Harper ruled over some MPs and kicked them out to get his policies in place? Well, that was just him conveying what the Privy Council told him to do - but, he did agree). Yes, the PM is the person who meets with the heads of state for other countries and passes on the messages and puts the pressure on them or asks favours, but in the wings are the appropriate Ministers or Deputy Ministers who are clarifying the reasons for why.
So - whether it's Singh, Poilievre or Trudeau, it's 'just policy and image' that they portray - not their own will. In the USA it's the Whitehouse (same as the Privy Council) but the President has the final word - the PM doesn't. In Canada the PM can be replaced from within the Caucus or by the Opposition via a non-confidence motion in Parliament (a vote). That can't happen in the USA - the President is there for 4 years and only 4 years unless he/she is impeached for a non-Constitutional action.
Bottom LINE: Don't pin it on Trudeau.... Look at the big picture and ask yourself what the other parties have to offer - and, MOST IMPORTANTLY: How will they be able to do it.
Example: Remember how Mulroney put in the GST and how Chretien swore that it was bad and that we all should vote Liberal because he'd get rid of it? We did vote Liberal.... where is the GST now?
BTW: I like your screen name - it all really is "Justafantasy".

You know. Even as an atheist I can get right behind her sentiment there. Its a good start. Of course, my list would be longer. But god is pretty old and feeble now if he is still there at all.😷
JollyRoger · 70-79, M
@LordShadowfire I guess it depends on what you believe! I don't have the same doubts as you seem to have.
JollyRoger · 70-79, M
@whowasthatmaskedman I understand you, but as a good neighbour, I'd still like to pray for you.

@JollyRoger And as I respect your right to your faith. I will respect that offer. Lets face it, I will take all the help I can get. So thank you..😷

JollyRoger · 70-79, M
@ImperialAerosolKidFromEP I think she might have been from the South...country, blues, rock-a-billy but not pop or easy-listening? Definitely not Canadian!

@JollyRoger And I will always maintain that anyone that uses wikipedia as a source will always lose their credibility.
JollyRoger · 70-79, M
@NativePortlander1970 That's OK byi me... I don't worry too much about anyone's opinion... even my own!
@JollyRoger What I care most about is the credibility of the source.

@acpguy Nah.... you gotta live here in Canada to know what the good-life really is! Yes, we are going through a period where 'laziness' is out-performing 'productivity', but our values beat those in the USA 100% when it comes to valuing all people despite their weaknesses.
