I just checked my social security statement and ….

It says that they overpaid me almost $5,000 and they want their money back! Wtf? How does something like that even happen? I don’t have money like that to give them for their mistakes! There was some kind of a waiver thing I could fill out to hopefully get them to waive it so I will do that.
Has this happened to anyone else here?

1. I would talk to them. We have a local office that may now be finally opened, three years after "Covid."
2. If that is not an option, call them. I heard SS is a lot easier to get through to on the phone than is the IRS.
3. If you actually owe them an overpayment, i think they take installments.
