They basically stole the land from Palestinians...
@SW-User Just like almost every country in the world. So do you think all countries are illegitimate ??

@SW-User Finish the story. They stole the land from the palestinians, who snuck in after the Romans stole it from the Hebrews, who had occupied the land for thousands of years after stealing it from the Canaanites. And I'm willing to bet if we had historical records that went back further, we'd find that the Canaanites stole it from someone else.

@SW-User Well. No.. The Palestinians had been squatting as scattered tribes for centurys. The British moved out as "owners" and the Israelis moved in and took vacant possession..😷
@whowasthatmaskedman But if you look back in History. The Palestinian's were not the first to inhabit this land, There were Hebrews, Caninities and probably before that there were others. The history of the holy land is very complex with wars etc. You might have to back a further 1000 years to even speculate who owns the holy land to day.

@SW-User Britain and France held the land from the Ottoman Empire post WW 1. When Israel came into existence following the Arabs not accepting the UN partition plan, war broke out and Israel displaced many innocent Arabs. There were atrocities on both sides, but Israeli crimes were permanent.

@Evolved True.. Of Course , the Jews and their Diaspora is as far back as they want to look.. and you wont find many Cananites out there to argue with them..They claim the land as the dispossesed people, who had remained seperate and faithful to the land. And Frankly having been through all they had, from the Inquisition to the third Reich, I figure they might have earned it as compensation.. No one cant argue they developed the country into something that is the jewel of the region, with a lot less to work with than some..😷

@whowasthatmaskedman How many literal millennia do you want to go? The Hebrews possessed the land for thousands of years before getting kicked out by the Romans.

@LordShadowfire Agreed.. I dont think we can seperate the "Hebrews" from the Jews in this...Although the whole region was dotted with splinter local groups who claimed different lineage.. All stemming back to David and Solomon.. What makes the Jews different is that they remained cohesive and suffered a pounding from all sides because of it...😷

@whowasthatmaskedman But why do the people subscribing to Jewish faith get to have their own country purely because of their nominated religious beliefs?
Fukfacewillie · 56-60, M
@butterflybaby75 Think of it like a Native American tribe -- both a religion and a people.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@butterflybaby75 If you want the brutal hard nosed truth.. Because although everyone picked on them, culminating in the Holocaust, they remained steadfast to their faith.. and after losing over 6 Million of their number in less than a decade while the world stood by and did nothing, pretty much everyone decided they deserved a break. Dress it up a dozen ways.. But thats how it was...😷

@Evolved never said that it was
@SW-User Many Palestinians are descended from people who immigrated to the area from the surrounding Arab countries at the same time European Jews began arriving. They’re not “native” either.

I would refer you back to my comment for my answer to that. They were in possession of the land for thousands of years, and were forced out by the Roman empire. The people now known as the Palestinians came into the picture sometime after the land was vacated and said," Hey, cool. This is now Palestine." They occupied the land for less than 2,000 years, as opposed to the Jews, who had it for three or four times that.

Basically the same reason I don't really consider the United States or Canada to be fully legitimate countries.
