Bravo.

i was unfamiliar with "the people's party" so i went to their web page. Higher taxes and government run banks intended to push aside todays banks which compete for our business on service and price. Bigger and more government.

what they have in common with the libertarian party is a mystery. libertarians would be appalled at these ideas.

hope these 2 groups either remain ignorant of each others motives, or agree to march together while unarmed. the potential for violent disagreement seems significant.

@SusanInFlorida i am not a statist but if you cant put aside your political differences (if possible) then arent you as wedded to identity as the mainstream left? And isnt it a little childish to think that people from left and right cant find common ground and it will just end up in violence?
@SusanInFlorida Politics make strange bedfellows. I’ve met anti-abortion libertarians who have that, and only that in common with Christian fundamentalists.

@LeopoldBloom i was actually sympathetic to the libertarian movement for a while. until i heard several of them claim "free public education is a problem"
@SusanInFlorida I was sympathetic to libertarianism until I realized that libertarians are just conservatives who smoke weed. They also deify the free market to a degree that would embarrass a Southern Baptist if they switched out the free market with Jesus. The free market is great if you're deciding what cell phone you want, not so great if you need a doctor or you prefer to eat sausages that don't have floor sweepings in them.

The public education system is one of the great achievements of the American experiment.

@LeopoldBloom i think you nailed it. if you ask most libertarians to name a policy other than guns and weed, they typically can't come up with any.
@SusanInFlorida Unfortunately, their other preferred policy is eliminating the age of consent. Hey, if you're against child molestation, don't molest children.

@LeopoldBloom i call this the "Game of Thrones" party

1. Brothels everywhere
2. Underage sex
3. No apparent taxation (unless you lose a war)
4. Mead, ale, milk of the poppy, and dornish wine available to all ages
5. No public schools
@SusanInFlorida They didn't have government regulations in GoT either. If an innkeeper waters his wine, don't drink there I guess.

I despise libertarians almost as much as I despise fascists.
@SusanInFlorida I just looked at the People's Party website. Seems to be the same platform the Peace and Freedom party has had for the last 50 years. I don't get why we need a new left wing party; we already have the Greens. If all of these groups would just get together, they might actually get some traction.

"Oh, we can't join up with those guys. They want 12 weeks of paid parental leave and we want 16 weeks"
