If housing is too expensive for most people, is the government supposed to do anything?

Budwick · 70-79, M
The government DOES do something.
They have housing projects.
Then, they tell Mom that she can't get it for free unless Dad moves out.
Thereby continuing the destruction of the American family.
These projects are typically in crappy areas.

Moral of the story - stay in school, get a good job.
redredred · M
@Budwick Walter Williams posed four rules to never be poor.
1) finish high school, at least
2) get and hold a job
3) do not reproduce outside of marriage
4) avoid alcohol and drugs.

That’s not how to get rich but it is how to avoid being poor.
Budwick · 70-79, M
@redredred I've heard that before.
Great advice!
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
That depends on who runs the government. If its the kind of government that wants the rich and powerful to be richer and more powerful, then Hello No! Let the poor b@$t@rd$ freeze to death in the dark. They shouldnt have been born poor in the first place.
Otherwise, Yes. Public housing and such support programs end up helping the whole economy and enlarging it an more skilled people are created, encouraging industry and the whole thing feeds on itself. But you have to think long term for that..😷

@sunsporter1649 Well thats what happens when you let Americans run things...The Chinese will do better, you'll see.😷
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
@whowasthatmaskedman Which one is you?

whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M

the government tried and caused the great recession of 2008-2012. by encouraging mortgage approval for numerous people couldnt afford to pay back. just like college loans today and the farmer\saving loans in 70's

This is also a constitutional issue that will never be agreed on.

By conservative interpretation of letter of the law, no. By democratic interpretation of spirit of the law, yes.

As you know this a conservative supreme.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@redredred I'm just saying that is how previous supreme courts have ruled . You don't like it take it up with those previous justices.
redredred · M
@DeWayfarer Now you bring up judges not the constitution. Those judges decided Dred Scott and Plessy v Ferguson.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@redredred take it up with the previous supreme court justices!!!
Poeticdiva · 31-35, F
They do what they can but I don't expect any more than that. Everything can't be left up to them alone.
Changeisgonnacome · 61-69, F
@Poeticdiva no, they used to build projects-. With swimming pools and parks. Not all they can.
Poeticdiva · 31-35, F
@Changeisgonnacome Oh, yea. You're right. It's a shame now.
Fairydust · F
The government’s have teamed up with the WEF and want you to own nothing and be happy lol. Eat bugs because they think we are useless eaters.
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
The government let the genie out of the bottle, no way they can get it back in again
Doomflower · 36-40, M
Stop encouraging breeding. Start stealth funding abortions.

Maybe stop bailing out the banks that own all the mortgaged property sitting empty?
