You know it's bad when South African whites call out Trump and Elon Musk when they want to withdraw aid from South Africa.

Well the purpose of Elon Musk even bringing this up is to make white people here in the USK insecure because they buy into the great white replacement theory so they are trying to be as divisive as possible to maintain votes but still, they lied about South Africa seizing land from white people. Even the centrist white people who are critics of the law stated that Trump wasn't telling the truth.

The Democratic Alliance, a more centrist and white-led party in South Africa, has opposed the law and has argued it needs to be amended. Nevertheless, the party strongly objected to Trump’s recent move and said in a statement released on Monday that “it is not true that the Act allows land to be seized by the state arbitrarily.” It added that a funding cuts could have devastating consequences for vulnerable South Africans, explaining that the country is slated to receive $439 million this year for HIV/AIDs treatment and support. “It would be a tragedy if this funding were terminated because of a misunderstanding of the facts,” the party stressed.

More broadly, land reform is a response to the staggering inequity that still plagues South Africa. As of 2018, nearly two-thirds of Black South Africans lived in poverty, compared to just one percent of white South Africans.

I mean when even critics of the law in South Africa tell you it's wrong and you're still trying to repeat the same thing, god you're stupid.

Good one!!

It also underlines the point that a large portion of USAID money goes to treat diseases overseas. Because - just spitballing here - what if a dangerous disease overseas were to mutate and/or combine genetics with another dangerous disease and start to spread?

Is it worth spending a fraction of a percent of our budget to keep tabs on such possibilities??

@ElwoodBlues the trump administration doesn't care who it kills though. They've been messing with CDC data too which honestly should be a crime

Two things can be true, by the way, the Trumpian Right can exploit a law, passed by the South African parliament, that also happens to be harmful, dangerous and morally wrong, to appeal to their Christian white nationalist base.

Any normal US administration should use economic statecraft and diplomacy to nudge the South African government on this issue to reconsider their misjudgement on the matter.

Publicly threatening a USAID cutoff, however, is not the way how to handle it.

And still most people don't have a clue about South Africa, nevermind where it is!
