Healey’s small minded budget does nothing for the Economy.

This government stagnates like Theresa May’s.

We seem to have found another Philip Hammond.

Told you so! (again) But sorry to hear that it's such a disappointment. Perhaps an early election next then?
FreddieUK · 70-79, M
@val70 Almost certainly not. Why would anyone with such a huge parliamentary majority 'go early' when they have so much time to do things to prove their point?
peterlee · M
@val70 it’s no good waiting until after the next election. This government was brought in to stimulate growth and give direction.

Instead, we are seeing four/five years of gimmicks and no action.

Waiting for Trump to leave office, and see what America brings next is not the answer.

If the manifesto does not fit, then be brave and call an Election to fit the new world order.

Nor can we wait two years to fix the problem of Putin. And hope he will go away.
Healey claimed he resigned as Defence Secretary due to lack of funding.
But the way he downed that pint though.... 😂

Unlike Liz Truss
peterlee · M
@JackJohnson She , like Burnham puts a strong case for calling an Election when they come into power.
JackJohnson · 18-21, M
@peterlee so who would you like in power don’t say Reform please
peterlee · M
@JackJohnson I’d like all people below the age of forty to come out to vote.
And that includes those excluded for not having a permanent address!

Apathy brought in the present government. Only 56% of the Electorate bothered.
OldBrit · 61-69, M
Budget with the most ever measures but all of them very small. Shame I had hoped for more radical stuff but unfortunately with the memories of Truss etc still too vivid it'll be a while until we ever get that. I fear though it'll be the wrong kind of radical led by those who really have no care at all for the majority of us.
SunshineGirl · 41-45, F
He doesn't have much scope given his party's manifesto pledge not to raise three major taxes. Tackling youth unemployment and childhood poverty is a great foundation for economic resilience.
peterlee · M
@SunshineGirl I agree he is in Straight Jacket. So why not call an Election, instead of stagnating for another two years.

He could at least deliver on defence. America is no help. Putin is laughing.
Picklebobble2 · 61-69, M
No wiggle room for anything other than tax and spend.

But we're not the only country doing this.
A lot of western nations are doing the same.

Raiding pension pots to fund only the absolutely essential.
Especially since the bond market has no buyers.
FreddieUK · 70-79, M
The trouble is, they are sticking to the manifesto commitments NOT to do certain things and combined with the world economic 'headwinds' there is not a lot the British government can do.
val70 · 56-60
@FreddieUK I know that you're probably right but... to me those reasons - of staying captive to either the manifesto or world events - sound more like excuses. Why then change leader? Oh yes, the obvious answer is because of the nefast ruling political ambitions of the majority of politicians today.
FreddieUK · 70-79, M
@val70 'nefast'? Perhaps a tad judgemental of all politicians. Some may be very self-centred...indeed are plainly so...but the majority? We have a very good local MP these days after years of complacency assuming the sitting MP was bound to get back in. One person's excuse is another person's valid reason. I find it hard to understand what the electorate actually want as many are not able to articulate that and don't seem to understand their own political system or what any government can actually do if the population won't pay for anything more.
val70 · 56-60
@FreddieUK Lets now not blame the electorate. Don't trust them to do the right thing, don't trust them that they actually know for what they vote for, but that's democracy in action. Personally, I don't trust near to no-one any more. Take a politician either from the top to the lowest ranks, it's never good to trust anyone with something they don't even know anything about. Populism is bad, but try to put that across. Elitism is throw in your face. Elitism? Who's the elite? Those who actually are behind a Liz Truss or a JD Vance.
