Do you believe in, or have experience with, a thing called the 'night time economy'?

As a shiftworker in a 24/7 industry for over 35 yrs now I've seen a lot, but the 'night time economy' seems more myth than fact.

Outside of places like truckie rest stops that might have 24 hour food services, and the sprinkling of McDonalds outlets that are allowed to operate 24/7 in the areas I've lived (not in big city centres) there's not much if anything that's 24 hrs.

At 2 am in the morning finding places to get a feed is nigh on impossible away from suburban areas, apart from service stations (fuel outlets) that sell grossly over-priced convenience items.

Is there a 'night time economy' where you live?

There are probably no all-night businesses in my area, though I live not far from a commercial harbour where if nothing else the ships using it likely have people on watch all night; and the port itself will have its own 24/day security cover.

There are no overnight filling-stations but a few have payment card-readers on the pumps so you can at least buy fuel.

Our motorway service areas are all open 2h/dy, 7 d/week; though with reduced nocturnal facilities. The nearest to me is nearly 70 miles away though.

The utility services have overnight crews to cope with breakdowns on their services; and my motoring association has 24-hr on-call garages / recovery-services available.

Depends on where you live. In smaller towns....semi-rural locations of industries........night time economy is go home and go to sleep when you shift is over. In urban areas......just the opposite. NYC for instance is known as the city that never sleeps..
