I Am Concerned About the Economy

Somebody please explain to me why we're destroying our economy, why we are sheltering in place? According to the CDC 30 -40 MILLION cases of the flu have been reported this year. 400k - 500k have been hospitalized. Approximately 50,000 have died. What in the heck is the difference?

Worst thing is many aren't even doing as they are told. They are out and about as if this is a vacation and are not distancing when in public.

Maybe if everyone had just listened in the first place and chosen to think of others instead of themselves, and social distanced from the start we would already be in recovery mode. And our economy would probably not be suffering as much. But the incredible selfishness, lack of caring about others, believing this was a hoax or a political play by either side, led people to go about their "business as usual lifestyles"... The virus doesn't care if your Democrat or Republican and we should stop politicizing this. Americans need to start working together instead of using this as just another tool to separate us. I have many friends in the medical field and this is not just another "flu". The repercussions of this virus could indeed severely affect our health care system. But yet even at this point, if people would just stop arguing and stay in their homes for a week or two we could make a huge difference.... And yet people won't.@curiosi
