Wealth is a tricky thing in the NT because it was a primary belief of Jesus' (it would seem) that the resources - spiritual and physical - needed for the deserving was being hoarded by the religious authorities. Religion - and thereby God - had become inaccessible to the ones who sought Him the most.
In the Book of Luke (who was a physician), the issue of wealth is discussed. The perspective seems to be that wealth is just fine, so long as one has done their part to aid the least fortunate. Wealth wasn't something to be hoarded but shared when necessary, as spiritual glory was the ultimate goal.
