How can anyone support jesus and capitalism?

It is much harder for a rich person to enter the Kingdom of God than for a camel to go through the eye of a needle.

How can people mingle politics and faith? Conveniently ignored the next few verses I see.

Don't play the opposite of the Republican game.

There were also FAKE priests of the USSR who said heaven wasn't required because the government would make the perfect place on earth.

Basically you can be Christian regardless of your political affiliation.

One informs the other. If you truly believe in the teachings of Jesus, then you believe in taking care of the poor, which doesn't happen under Capitalism.
If the Republicans don't believe in those teachings, but still use Christianity in their propaganda, then it's fair game to call them hypocrites.

Neither political side should do this.
@BritishFailedAesthetic I agree, though I also accept that people's politics are informed by their general worldview, which may be religious.
@BohemianBoo Nope. For example some Christian Republicans may volunteer at a soup kitchen for example.
@BritishFailedAesthetic But that's a bullshit ego-boost. Charity does nothing to eliminate poverty. Poverty can only be eliminated on a systemic level.
@BohemianBoo Ok but on both sides- acknowledging you are a sinner and that only by accepting Christ's sacrifice can you be forgiven and spared from an eternal hell..... is not a political flex.
@BritishFailedAesthetic Sure, because that has nothing to do with politics. But something like how to deal with poverty, that does.
I think generally religion is a negative affect on society. But if people are going to be religious, I say we point out what their own religions say about poverty and classism.
@BohemianBoo Oh yes, help out the poor and needy but this can also be done practically- the Democrat and Republican Christian can help a food bank, etc or be even more personal- buy a homeless person a meal, etc
@BritishFailedAesthetic On a personal level, that's good, but it does nothing in the long run. TBH, I see the promotion of charity as being a bad thing. It's just a way to put the responsibility on the individual, when it should be on the systemic level.
This is why corporations will sometimes do charity. Aside from the good PR, it shuts up the public, when we should be demanding that these big corporations pay more taxes so we can fund welfare programs.
