No way! I think the Dark Knight is overrated, as there are way better Batman movies, but that version of the Joker is the most true to the comic books. The Joker is obsessed with Batman, that's all he cares about. And he doesn't know what his origin story is, so he just imagines different stories as to how he came to be the Joker. The Dark Knight is probably the only mainstream Batman film to portray that perfectly. The only other movies that come close are the Dark Knight Returns movies.

I wouldn’t get too stuck on old definitions but consider concepts. It seems as plausible as trad left wing anarchism.

@BohemianBabe ledgers joker couldn't be further from the comics joker. Not funny, doesn't initially care about batman and he isn't as manic as the joker is supposed to be. Ledger plays him as someone who is pissed off with the world and wants to go out in a blaze of glory. Kinda like rutger hauer in the hitcher. The joker is a dangerous, violent and incredibly funny unpredictable physcho. Nicholson understood that the joker is meant to be funny and highly enjoys scaring and killing people. Joker doesn't want to kill batman simply because he enjoys antagonising him. Ledger becomes obsessed with batman because hes given his joker a sense of purpose that he'd felt he had lost in my opinion. Again like hauer in the hitcher. In that film, their is a sense that he's somebody who has any sense of sanity due to maybe a major tragedy and just wants to die and kills people because he's bored. Joker kills people because it amuses him

Think of Vikings trading with Slavs, for example.
