I Can't Understand Why People Like Guns

Recently my neighbors gun accidentally went off while he was driving with his 4 kids in the car. He died he was only about 36. Now his kids have no dad.
The gun wasn't worth it

Wait...you're saying he was driving in the car with his 4 children AND a loaded gun, which obviously was not secured, and somehow...it went off ACCIDENTLY? Given the nature of such a tragedy, I'm sure it was all over the news. Do you have a link to the story to provide more details?

he wasn't out of the neighborhood yet*

Not saying it was a murder. I believe it was an accident. The article said that the car rolled into the woods near a church after the shot was fired. How close is that to the neighborhood? Sounds rural. Police didn't release shooting details, but the neighbors know? Guy is taking his children fishing, and brings a loaded gun? Wow!

it's less than 2 minutes away and yeah it's a rural county but 10 minutes from the city

It wasn't the gun that did it.

How did the gun accidently go off? They don't go off by themselves.

probably didn't have the safety on, etc (i just find them unnecessarily dangerous) it could've shot his kids

That's true, there are places for a gun but in a car with kids is not one of them.

That's very sad and tragic. I wonder if there were any fatal automobile accidents that day?

How did it go off exactly? Guns don't shoot themselves.

I asked the same question. Details are sketchy, and the police did not release much info about the incident. Apparently, the person who died was a father of four children, the oldest was 9, and the kids were in the car at the time their father was fatally wounded. He was taking the kids fishing at the time of the accident. The father was the owner of a handgun, and hand a concealed carry permit. The article does not state if the father had his weapon in the car, or if the shot fired was from his gun. The author of this piece told me that the neighbors say the guy was killed by his own weapon. Not sure how they would know unless they were on the scene. No details on how the gun went off, other than it was an accident. In my mind, it doesn't add up. People with a CCL are trained. They lived in a rural area. He should have known better than to be carrying a loaded weapon in a car with small children - assuming that is what happened.
